In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may determine a duration of a first gap that precedes a reference signal, based at least in part on a polarization of the reference signal. The UE may determine a duration of a second gap that succeeds the reference signal, based at least in part on the polarization of the reference signal. Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device may monitor for a transmission of a synchronization signal block that includes a first portion generated using a first waveform type and a second portion using a second waveform type that is different than the first waveform type. The wireless device may detect the first portion of the synchronization signal block based on the first waveform type used for the first portion. After detecting the first portion of the synchronization signal block, the wireless device may process the second portion of the synchronization signal block based on information obtained from the first portion of the synchronization signal block. The information obtained from the first portion of the synchronization signal block may include timing information, frequency information, or both.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) are described. A UE may operate by asynchronously transmitting code division multiple access (CDMA) uplink signals to a network entity. The UE may transmit the CDMA signals via an uplink channel that may be shared with orthogonal frequency multiplexing (OFDM) signaling transmitted by one or more other UEs. The UE may indicate to the network entity a capability for communicating with CDMA waveforms and may use CDMA waveforms based on transmitting the indication. The UE may also receive one or more parameters associated with using the CDMA waveforms, and may use CDMA waveforms based on the one or more parameters. The uplink channel may be a random access channel (RACH) and may support RACH transmissions, or may be a data channel and support data transmissions.

The UE may receive, from the network, a configuration of one or more channel sounding messages for one or more directional beams, where each directional beam of the one or more directional beams is associated with a set of narrowband carriers, and each of the one or more channel sounding messages being configured for transmission on a narrowband carrier of the set of narrowband carriers. The UE may determine a trigger for transmitting the one or more channel sounding messaged based at least in part on the configuration and transmit, to the network, the one or more channel sounding messages on respective narrowband carriers in accordance with the trigger and the configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A serving base station or a serving satellite may transmit a timing configuration to the UE based on a reference unit, such as a location at a beam center for a respective satellite, a threshold distance relative to the beam center for the respective satellite, a reference time, or any combination thereof. In some cases, the UE may monitor for one or more SSBs from the neighboring satellites according to the timing configuration and a respective propagation delay between the UE and each of the neighboring satellites. The UE may measure the SSBs according to the measurement gap and measurement window in the timing configuration. In some examples, the UE may perform a cell handover procedure or a cell reselection procedure based on measuring the SSBs.
