摘要: A system for removing lipids from blood during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery is disclosed. The system uses an acoustophoretic separator having improved trapping force. The transducer of the acoustophoretic seperator includes a ceramic crystal. Blood flows through the separator, and lipids are trapped and removed.

摘要: Separation of materials is achieved using affinity binding and acoustophoretic techniques. A column provided with a fluid mixture of materials for separation and support structures may be used with acoustic waves to block flow of the support structures. The support structures can have an affinity for one or more materials in the fluid mixture. By blocking flow of the support structures, materials bound or adhered to the support structure are also blocked.

The standing wave can be used to retain cells in the bioreactor, and can also be utilized to dewater or further harvest product from the waste materials produced in a bioreactor.

摘要: A series of multi-dimensional acoustic standing waves is set up inside a growth volume of a bioreactor. The acoustic standing waves are used to hold a cell culture in place as a nutrient fluid stream flows through the cell culture. The nutrient fluid stream dislodges some cells from the cell culture, which can then be recovered for cell therapy applications. The cell culture continues to expand and reproduce, permitting continuous recovery of cells from the bioreactor.

摘要: Methods, systems, and apparatus for acoustic separation of cellular supporting materials such as microcarriers or microbubbles from cell culture are provided. In one aspect, a method includes flowing a fluid containing the cellular supporting material and the cells through a flow chamber; driving at least one acoustic transducer to launch an acoustic wave from the acoustic transducer positioned on a first wall of the flow chamber to a reflector positioned on a second wall of the flow chamber to create, in the flow chamber, a multi-dimensional field that includes first spatial locales where acoustic pressure amplitude is elevated from a baseline level when the acoustic transducer is turned off, and second spatial locales where acoustic pressure amplitude is substantially identical to the baseline level when the acoustic transducer is turned off, wherein the first wall is opposite to the second wall; preferentially trapping, and gravity separating, the cellular supporting material or the cells at the first or second spatial locales inside the flow chamber; and collecting cells separated from the cellular supporting material using a first collection duct coupled to the flow chamber.

摘要: Acoustophoretic devices and methods for concentrating targeted biological cells in a reduced volume using multi-dimensional acoustic standing waves are disclosed. The methods include flowing a mixture of a host fluid and the biological cells through an acoustophoretic device. The acoustophoretic devices include an inlet, an outlet, and a flow chamber having an ultrasonic transducer-reflector pair. Biological cells, such as T cells, are separated from a host fluid for utilization in allergenic or autologous cell therapies. The disclosed devices and methods are capable of concentrating biological cells to at least 100 times their original cell concentration. The disclosed methods and devices are further capable of decreasing an original feed volume to a final concentrated volume that is less than one percent of the original feed volume.
