The object of the invention is to provide a zinc antimonate anhydride and a production method thereof. The invention relates to a particle having a ZnO/Sb.sub.2 O.sub.5 molar ratio in a range of from 0.8 to 1.2, a crystal structure of zinc antimonate anhydride (Znsb.sub.2 O.sub.6), and a primary particle size in a range of from 5 to 500 nm. The production method of these particles comprises the steps of mixing a zinc compound with a colloidal antimony oxide at a ZnO/Sb.sub.2 O.sub.5 molar rate in a range of from 0.8 to 1.2, followed by calcining the mixture within a temperature range of from 500.degree. to 1100.degree. C. The particles of this invention are applicable as a flame retardant for plastics, a smoke suppressant, antistatic agent for plastics and glasses, and resistor.

A coating composition comprising an organosilicon compound and modified stannic oxide - zirconium oxide composite colloidal particles which are obtained by partially or fully coating the surface of stannic oxide - zirconium oxide composite colloidal particles with tungstic oxide - stannic oxide composite colloidal particles. The formed cured coating film is excellent in hot water resistance, and light-resistance and weathering resistance are not impaired even when the antireflection film made by vepor deposition of inorganic oxides is applied on the cured coating film.

A sol of flat silica particles (100-1000 nm in size) is produced by the following steps (a) to (d) from an acidic aqueous sol (S.sub.0) of negatively charged silica particles (7-30 nm in diameter) and an aqueous solution (B) of basic aluminum or zirconium salt.(a) mixing 100 parts by weight (as SiO.sub.2) of the sol (S.sub.0) with 0.2-10 parts by weight (as Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 or ZrO.sub.2) of the aqueous solution (B), and adjusting the resulting sol to pH 4-7, thereby yielding a sol (S.sub.1),(b) mixing 100 parts by weight (as SiO.sub.2) of the sol (S.sub.1) with 20-200 parts by weight (as SiO.sub.2) of the sol (S.sub.0), and adjusting the resulting sol to pH 4-7, thereby yielding a sol (S.sub.2),(c) mixing 100 parts by weight (as SiO.sub.2) of the sol (S.sub.2) with the aqueous solution (B) in an amount corresponding to 2-50% of the amount (as Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 or ZrO.sub.2 in parts by weight) added to 100 parts by weight (as SiO.sub.2) of the sol (S.sub.0) used in step (a), and adjusting the resulting sol to pH 4-7, thereby yielding a sol (S.sub.3), and(d) mixing 100 parts by weight (as SiO.sub.2) of the sol (S.sub.3) with the sol (S.sub.0) in an amount corresponding to 10-95% of the amount (as SiO.sub.2 in parts by weight) added to 100 parts by weight (as SiO.sub.2) of the sol (S.sub.1) in step (b), and adjusting the resulting sol to pH 4-7, thereby yielding a sol (S.sub.4).

Disclosed are a papermaking method comprising the steps of sheet-formation of an aqueous papermaking stock which contains a cellulose fiber or the said fiber and an inorganic filler, dewatering and drying, characterized by the addition of a starch ether derivative of a general formula (I): ##STR1## where St-O represents a starch molecule residue, R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 independently represent an alkyl group having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms or a benzyl group, provided that two or more of these R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 must not be a benzyl group or an alkyl group having from 5 to 18 carbon atoms at the same time, and any two of these R.sub.1, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 may be bonded to form a cyclic structure, the said derivative containing the ether bond preferably in a degree of substitution of from 0.01 to 0.1, to the said papermaking stock in an amount of from 0.05 to 5.0% by weight of the cellulose fiber or the total of the said fiber and the inorganic filler in the said stock, as well as the said starch ether derivative of the formula (I) and a method for preparation of the said derivative.

An organic black matrix having high resistivity (.gtoreq.10.sup.11 ohm/square), high optical density (.gtoreq.2.0) at ultra thin film thicknesses (.ltoreq.1.0 microns) for improved STN and TFT pixel display applications is made possible by combining polyimide/dye solutions and mixed metal oxide pigment dispersions at a weight/weight ratio of dye to pigment of 1:15 to 3:15. The need for low resistivity carbon black, as a replacement for sputtered chrome, is negated.

A high-purity stable aqueous silica sol is prepared which has an SiO.sub.2 concentration of from 30 to 50% by weight and which is substantially free from any other polyvalent metal oxides than silica and in which the colloidal silica has a mean particle size falling within the range of from 10 to 30 millimicrons. The silica sol obtained by the method of the present invention has an extremely low content of oxides of polyvalent metals such as iron or aluminum and may therefore be employed for uses which require the absence of such metals in the silica sol, for example, as an abrasive for semiconductors.

A surface of the colloidal antimony pentoxide may be modified by a metal compound, ammonia or an organic base and it may be further modified by an acidic substance.The deodorizer of the present invention is effective to deodorize a basic gas such as ammonia, trimethylamine, triethylamine, etc.; an acidic gas such as hydrogen sulfide, acetic acid, butyric acid, isovaleric acid, methymercaptane, ethylmercaptane, methyl sulfide, methyl disulfide, etc.; an organic solvent gas such as tolunene, ethylacetate, methyl ethyl ketone, benzene acetaldehyde, etc.; and further to alleviate uncomfortable for example, odor causing gas daily generated such as nicotine smell, tar small, etc.
