An anhydrous cosmetic makeup composition contains in addition to a fatty phase formed from oils, fatty bodies and surfactants, and optionally waxes, a vesicular lipidic phase that contains at least one ionic or nonionic amphiphilic lipid and optionally additives. The anhydrous composition also preferably contains at least one cosmetically and/or dermopharmaceutically active material. In the presence of an aqueous phase these compositions release vesicles of the vesicular lipidic phase and potentialize the activity of the cosmetically and/or dermopharmaceutically active material of the composition.

Cosmetic or dermatological composition in the form of an aqueous and stable dispersion of cubic gel particles based on 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-1,2,3-hexadecanetriol or phytanetriol and use thereof for hydrating the skin. This composition essentially comprises: (a) from 0.1 to 15% by weight of 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-1,2,3-hexadecanetriol relative to the total weight of the composition, and (b) from 0.1 to 3% by weight of a dispersing and stabilizing agent relative to the total weight of the composition, the said agent being chosen from surface-active agents that are water-soluble at room temperature, containing a saturated or unsaturated fatty chain having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms. This composition is of excellent stability and has a very satisfactory sensory feel and a hydrating effect, and moreover allows hydrophilic and/or lipophilic active principles to be included therein without any problem of compatibility.

A process for preparing large unilamellar lipid vesicles is disclosed which process comprises preparing unilamellar lipid vesicles having an average diameter of at least 1,000 .ANG., each of these vesicles consisting of a spheroidal lipid lamella containing a substance to be encapsulated, which process comprises dissolving one or more lipids intended to form the lamella of the vesicles in at least one water-insoluble solvent, conditioning the resulting lipid solution at a pressure P.sub.1 and at a temperature .theta..sub.1, dissolving the substance to be encapsulated in water to obtain an aqueous phase, conditioning said aqueous phase at a pressure P.sub.2 and a temperature .theta..sub.2, injecting the lipid solution into the aqueous phase at a low flow rate so as initially to form droplets and so that solvent of the lipid solution vaporises on coming into contact with the said aqueous phase, the pressure P.sub.2 being less than P.sub.1 and less than the vapor pressure of the solvent in the said droplets at the temperature .theta..sub.2.
