    Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for dynamically changing coverage modes and/or communication bandwidth in a wireless communication system. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may attach to a serving cell associated with a cellular network. A volume of data for upcoming communication with the cellular network may be determined. An indication of a requested communication bandwidth may be provided to the serving cell. The wireless device may communicate data with the serving cell using the requested communication bandwidth. In some instances, a request for narrowband communication bandwidth may result in use of a coverage enhancement mode, while a request for wideband communication bandwidth may result in use of a normal coverage mode.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods to support parallel communication using multiple subscriber identities in a wireless communication device via multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs) are disclosed. A representative method includes establishing a connection with a first wireless network via a first wireless cellular protocol software stack for a first subscriber identity associated with a first subscriber identity module; registering with a second wireless network via a second wireless cellular protocol software stack for a second subscriber identity associated with a second subscriber identity module; and receiving radio frequency signals from the second wireless network via the second wireless cellular protocol software stack in parallel with communicating with the first wireless network via the first wireless cellular protocol software stack. The first and second wireless cellular protocol software stacks share at least a portion of radio frequency wireless circuitry for communicating with the first and second wireless network respectively.

    Abstract: In some embodiments, a user equipment device (UE) implements improved communication methods which include radio resource time multiplexing, dynamic sub-frame allocation, and UE transmit duty cycle control. In some embodiments, the UE may communicate with base stations using radio frames that include multiple sub-frames, transmit information regarding allocation of a portion of the sub-frames of a respective radio frame for each of a plurality of the radio frames, and transmit and receive data using allocated sub-frames and not using unallocated sub-frames. In some embodiments, the UE may operate according to a sub-frame allocation based on its current power state. The UE may transmit information to the base station and receive the sub-frame allocation based on at least the information. In some embodiments, the UE may switch transmit duty cycles based on an occurrence of a condition at the UE. The UE may inform the network of the switch.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for handling voice and data under uplink limited conditions in a wireless communication system. A wireless device and a base station may establish a wireless communication link. Transmission time interval bundling (TTI-B) may be enabled for uplink communications between the wireless device and the base station. It may be determined that the wireless device is experiencing uplink limited conditions. One or more rules prioritizing a first type of data over a second type of data for uplink communications may be enabled based on TTI-B being enabled and the wireless device experiencing uplink limited conditions.

    Abstract: A wireless communication device (UE) may reliably decode control information during wireless cellular communications. The UE may decode the Physical Control Format Indicator Channel (PCFICH) for a given wireless network, and if the decode is unsuccessful, the UE may perform a blind decode of the PCFICH. The UE may decode, for the network, a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) for a current subframe using a specified control format indicator (CFI) value. If the decode of the PDCCH is successful, the UE may communicate over the NW, using the specified CFI value. If the decode for the current subframe is unsuccessful, the UE may decode the PDCCH for a different next subframe using a different CFI value until the PDCCH for the NW has been successfully decoded. The CFI value may be specified based at least on common signaling present in certain subframes received by the UE.
