Abstract: The present disclosure relates to means to enable reduction of memory access in motion vector determination and/or refinement for a prediction block. In particular, the present disclosure relates to means to enable reduction of memory access in motion vector determination and/or refinement performed on a sub prediction block basis. In other words, a prediction block is split into sub prediction blocks for which at least the motion vector refinement is performed individually. The memory access window which limits the samples accessible during the motion vector determination and refinement of the sub prediction blocks does not exceed the memory access window for performing the motion vector determination and/or refinement for the prediction block.

Abstract: A method of decoding a coded video bitstream implemented by a video decoder. The method includes determining a split mode for a coding tree unit (CTU) in an encoded bitstream, where the split mode is one of triple tree (TT), vertical binary tree (BT), and horizontal BT; marking a coding unit (CU) from the CTU as not to be predicted by intra prediction when one of three conditions is met; parsing the encoded bitstream to obtain a prediction unit and residual information for the CU from the CTU; and reconstructing the CU based on the prediction unit and the residual information when the CU has been marked.

Abstract: A motion vector determination employs template matching. At first, an initial motion vector is obtained. If the initial motion vector points to a position that is fractional, and thus, requires interpolation from the integer sample positions, the initial motion vector is rounded to a closest integer sample position. The rounded position is then used to define the search space for the template matching to define a refinement of the initial motion vector.

Abstract: Devices and methods for Intra prediction are provided. The method includes: obtaining a value of a first indication information of a current block and a value of a reference index line of the current block. When the value of the first indication information indicates the intra prediction mode of the current block is comprised in the set of most probable modes, and when the value of the reference index line indicates the closest neighboring reference line to the current block is used, the method further includes obtaining a value of a second indication information of the current block, the value of the second indication information of the current block indicating whether the intra prediction mode of the current block is Planar mode or not. The method can improve the efficiency to determine the intra prediction mode of the current block.
