The present invention provides a tablet core which comprises at least about 95% by weight of an aliphatic amine polymer. The invention also provides a method of producing a tablet core comprising at least about 95% by weight of an aliphatic amine polymer resin The method comprises the step of compressing the aliphatic amine polymer to form the tablet core. The tablet core can further include one or more excipients. In this embodiment, the method of producing the tablet core comprises the steps of: (1) hydrating the aliphatic amine polymer to the desired moisture level; (2) blending the aliphatic amine polymer with the excipients in amounts such that the polymer comprises at least about 95% by weight of the resulting blend; and (3) compressing the blend to form the tablet core. The present invention further relates to a coated tablet comprising an aliphatic amine polymer core wherein the coating is a water based coating.

A pH-responsive cell scaffold for growing a cell culture is disclosed. The cell scaffold has pores in which biological cells may be disposed. As the pH of the local environment drops, the cell scaffold swells to draw in additional oxygen and/or other nutrients. The increased supply of oxygen and/or nutrients increases the longevity of the cells. In some embodiments, the cell scaffold induces a change in gene expression that promotes wound healing.

Systems and methods related to polymer foams are generally described. Some embodiments relate to compositions and methods for the preparation of polymer foams, and methods for using the polymer foams. The polymer foams can be applied to a lung at or near an alveolar duct targeted for reduction, occluding the airway and leading to tissue necrosis because the foam prevents oxygenation of the tissue surrounding the duct. In some embodiments, the polymer foams can be formed within a body cavity (i.e., in-situ foam formation). In addition, the foam may form a seal, eliminating the source of air leaks.
