Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A method may include determining to modify current-allowed network slices used by a user equipment (UE) based on a network-trigger; identifying new-allowed network slices for the UE based on the determining; selecting a target access and mobility management function (AMF) based on the new-allowed network slices, the target AMF is accessible by the source AMF; and triggering an AMF relocation based on the selecting.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to mechanisms for interworking between legacy and next generation core networks in a communication network. In some examples, a connectivity request originated by a user equipment towards a legacy core network may be transferred to a next generation core network when the user equipment supports the radio access technology of the next generation core network.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for wireless communications. A wireless communication system may use access preferences to indicate a preferred access for communicating signaling for a control plane service. In some aspects, an AMF and a UE may establish access preferences for one or more control plane services and communicate signaling for the control plane service based on the established access preferences. In some cases, the UE may transmit modified access preferences for a control plane service to the AMF, and the UE and AMF may communicate signaling for the control plane service based on the modified access preferences. In some aspects, an AMF may also restrict the accesses used by a control plane service. A UE may also request that certain accesses are restricted for use by a control plane service.

Abstract: In an aspect, a network supporting a number of client devices may include a network device that establishes a security context and generates a client device context. The client device context includes network state information that enables the network to communicate with the client device. The network device generates one or more encrypted network reachability contexts based on the client device context, and transmits the one or more encrypted network reachability contexts to a network entity. The one or more encrypted network reachability contexts enable the network device to reconstruct the context for the client device when the network device receives a message to be transmitted to the client device from the network entity. As a result, the network device can reduce an amount of the context for the client device maintained at the network device in order to support a greater number of client devices.

Abstract: Techniques for modification of data sessions may allow changing of user plane functions (UPFs) that serve a data session. A UE may identify a user plane of a first data session is to be relocated from a first UPF, and may initiate a second data session with a second UPF using an identification associated with the first data session. In some cases, the first data session may be modified to be served by the second UPF rather than the first UPF. A network entity, such as a session management function (SMF) may determine that a user plane of a first data session of a UE is to be relocated away from a first UPF, and may perform a user plane relocation of the first data session via establishing a second data session at a second UPF or via modifying the first data session to be served by a second UPF.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. Relocation of a user plane may be minimized through the exchange of communication session information between network nodes. For example, a connectivity session manager and an access and mobility manager may exchange information associated with a user equipment (UE) communication session to prevent unnecessary reestablishment of an existing communication session. In such cases, the access and mobility manager may receive a session management request from a UE and send a request including the session management request to the connectivity session manager. Based on the received message, the connectivity session manager may identify a continuity mode, select a user plane anchor for the communication session, and send a response message to the access and mobility manager. In some examples, the connectivity session manager and the access and mobility manager may exchange session area codes associated with the location of the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that supports connectivity to a core network via an access network. A user equipment (UE) may establish connectivity with an access network and perform a discovery procedure to identify and select a packet data gateway that provides connectivity to a core network via a core network node. The UE may perform an authentication procedure with the core network node via the packet data gateway to be authenticated with the core network for establishing connectivity with the packet data gateway. The UE may receive a set of control plane addressing information via the packet data gateway corresponding to a secure tunnel established between the UE and the packet data gateway. The UE may perform an attach procedure via the secure tunnel with the core network node without re-authenticating the UE.

Abstract: Some aspects of the disclosure provide various methods, apparatuses and computer-readable medium configured for wireless communication. A method operable at a user equipment (UE) may include transmitting a connection request message configured to request initial connection with a radio access network (RAN) node. The connection request message may include information configured to indicate a service profile of the UE. A method operable at the RAN node may include receiving the connection request message from the UE. The connection request message may include information configured to indicate the service profile of the UE. A method operable at a serving node may include receiving a connection request message from the RAN node. The connection request message may be configured to establish communication with the UE and may include a service profile corresponding to the UE.

Abstract: A device establishes flows associated with one or more applications using control plane signaling. A gateway device obtains a request for a network token during the control plane signaling. The gateway device derives the network token and sends it to the device and/or an access node during the control plane signaling. The device and/or access node obtain the network token, where the network token is associated with a first flow of the one or more flows, a first application of the one or more applications, and provisioned to the device or access node via the control plane signaling. The network token may be included in a packet sent in the user plane from the device. The network token may be verified at the access node and/or the gateway device using a cryptographic function and sent to its destination based on the results of the verification.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to mechanisms for interworking between legacy and next generation radio access technologies (RATs) in a communication network. In some examples, a connectivity request originated by a user equipment towards a next generation core network may be processed by the next generation core network. The next generation core network may then provide the user equipment an indication of whether the next generation core network supports an inter-RAT handover between the next generation RAT and a legacy RAT.
