A cold cathode fluorescent flat lamp (CCFFL) comprising a cavity, a fluorescence material, a discharge gas, at least one first electrode pair and at least one second electrode pair is provided. The cavity comprises a first inner wall and a second inner wall opposite to the first inner wall or disposed on an outer wall of the cavity. The fluorescence material is disposed over the inner wall of the cavity, and the discharge gas is disposed inside the cavity. The first and second electrode pairs are disposed over the first and second inner wall respectively, and each first and second electrode pairs comprise a first light emitting area and a second light emitting area respectively. The first electrode pair and second electrode pair may be outside the cavity. The first light emitting area and the second light emitting area are not completely overlapped, therefore the non-illuminating area in-between may be compensated. Thus, the light emitting uniformity of the cold cathode fluorescent flat lamp (CCFFL) may be increased.

A stage lighting lamp unit includes a processor for receiving control data from a remote console. Beam orientation data for the lamp unit is passed to the lamp in the form of the x, y and z co-ordinates of a point in space through which the beam is to pass. The processor divides the required lamp travel into a number of stages dependent on execution duration data sent with the position data, and calculates, for each stage, a new value for pan and tilt angles for the lamp. These values are passed to pan and tilt controlling co-processors which control servo-motors for pan and tilt operation. The lamp unit also incorporates a rotatable shutter for interrupting the lamp beam when required. The shutters of all the lamps in a system can be instructed from the remote console to open and close in synchronism, thereby providing a stroboscopic effect.

Electronic ballast power supply/control circuits and methods that can be used to supply starting power to PFC control chips and that can be used to control ballasts so that PFC and inverter power supply circuits supply stable power to control circuitry even when the ballasts are performing advanced ballast functions. The circuits and methods supply starting power more quickly and efficiently than prior art starting circuits and control ballasts by either loading PFC circuits or inverter circuits included in the ballasts. The circuits load PFC circuits by connecting load resistors to the PFC circuits or by operating the inverter circuits at high frequencies that generate switching losses in the inverter transistors that load the PFC circuits. Inverter circuits are loaded by operating the inverter at frequencies that are much higher than preheating, igniting, and normal operating frequencies.

An electronic ballast includes a microcontroller with software to provide an adaptive lamp preheat and ignition operation. The microcontroller commands a test frequency from the inverter and detects the frequency response of the resonant output circuit by measuring the voltage across the resonant capacitor. The measured voltages are compared to one or more reference voltages as the frequency is varied to select the optimal inverter frequency. An algorithm or look-up table is used to set the inverter frequencies for the lamp preheat and ignition phases.

Adapters for retrofitting lamps which were originally designed to function with conventional incandescent light bulbs with arc-discharge lamps are provided. Use of an adapter according to the invention provides a system by which a lamp may employ an arc discharge lamp for illuminative purposes, which lamp does not receive its electrical energy through the threads of the socket on the lamp, as in conventional incandescent lighting, but rather receives its energy from a source external to the lamp. The original wiring which came with the lamp may be eliminated by use of a system according to the present invention.

A control device is for flashlight systems in airports. The control device includes flash units which are connected, on the input side, to an energy supply line and, on the output side, to respectively one flashlight of the flashlight system via a light cable. The flash units respectively include a PCB (printed circuit board) for controlling the flashlight, a local master control system, and a connection device by which the local master control system is connected to the flash units. In order to avoid unwanted high voltages, each flash light unit includes an energy-integrating low-voltage capacitor which can be supplied by a current source having a corrected power factor and being connected to the flashlights embodied as low-voltage lights. The energy transmitted to the flashlights can be electronically controlled in order to regulate the light intensity and to stabilize the same against voltage source variations and power impedance variations. The connection device connecting the flash units to the local master control system is embodied as a local field bus system, in such a way that different, conventionally arranged, simultaneous or mixed flash configuration patterns can be produced by way of the same electrical installation.

According to the invention, the bead (8) consists of a glass material which has a resistivity of greater 108 Ωcm at 350° C. Moreover, the paste (9) containing the metal hydride is applied to the bead (8) in the radiation shadow with respect to the thermal radiation which emanates from the filament (7) of the lamp in operation, and is not in electrical contact with the supply conductor wires (5, 6) on the bead (8).
