    摘要: A high voltage sensor using an integrated optical Mach-Zehnder device is disclosed. A capacitive divider for sensing the electric field is connected to an electrode adjacent one of the parallel waveguide sections, while a second electrode adjacent the other section is grounded. The capacitive divider may be fabricated on the same substrate as the Mach-Zehnder device. Two similar devices which can be immersed in the electric field are also disclosed. In one case the device uses a Mach-Zehnder device having waveguides of the slab type. In this variation materials having two different refractive indices, both of which are low relative to the high index slab form the superstrates of the parallel waveguide sections. In the second variation, a Mach-Zehnder device having waveguides of the diffusion type is used. Thin films of high refractive index material are deposited over the two parallel waveguide sections, with the thickness and/or refractive index of the two film sections being different.

    摘要: A voltage measuring device is described which is suitable for application to encapsulated, high-voltage switching installations which include an inner conductor surrounded by a grounded metallic outer tube. The device utilizes the fact that an electric field exists between the inner conductor and metallic outer tube. It includes means for widening a portion of the outer tube to thereby form a space for locating certain portions of the measuring device. The device itself includes an electro-optical component, such as a Kerr or Pockels cell which is positioned in the space defined by the widening means, at a distance from the inner conductor which is approximately equal to the distance that the outer tube is located from said inner conductor. A metal layer is positioned on that side of the electro-optical component which is away from the inner conductor. The metal layer is electrically connected to the grounded, metallic outer tube. The presence of the layer insures that the lines of the electric field between the inner conductor and the outer tube are directed through the electrooptical component, perpendicular to the metal layer. A source of polarized light is directed towards said electro-optical component. As the light passes through the cell the plane of polarization of the light is rotated as a function of the electric field intensity. Thus the exiting light becomes a measure of the voltage between the inner conductor and the outer tube. The shifted, polarized light exiting from the electro-optical component is then processed by an optical evaluation device which produces an electrical output proportional to the amount of shift of the plane of polarization of the light.

    摘要: The disclosure includes an electro-optical sensor. The electro-optical sensor includes a test signal input to receive a test signal from a device under test (DUT). A bias circuit is employed to generate a bias signal. The electro-optical sensor also includes a Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) that employs an optical input, an optical output, and a bias input. The MZM is configured to receive an optical carrier signal via the optical input. The MZM also receives both the test signal and the bias signal on the bias input. The MZM modulates the test signal from the bias input onto the optical carrier to generate an optical signal while operating in a mode selected by the bias signal. The MZM also outputs the optical signal over the optical output.

    摘要: In this electric field vector detection method, an electro-optic crystal, where a (111) surface of an optical isotropic medium is cut out, is used as a terahertz wave detection element. The method includes: causing polarization of probe light of ultrashort pulsed light to be circular polarization; allowing the probe light having circular polarization to enter the terahertz wave detection element and probing the terahertz wave; modulating the probe light, having probed the terahertz wave, by a rotating analyzer and detecting the modulated probe light by a photodetector; performing lock-in detection of a detection signal from the photodetector by a lock-in detector using a frequency based on a rotational frequency of the rotating analyzer as a reference signal; and detecting an electric field vector of the terahertz wave based on a detection signal from the lock-in detector.

    摘要: A handheld fiber optic current and voltage monitor for applications in high voltage environment. A light source generates constant optical signal that is split by a fiber optic splitter into two paths. One path feeds a DMEMS based current sensor that is driven by a current to voltage conversion device that converts the current in a conductor into a voltage. The other path goes to a DMEMS based electric field sensor driven by a condenser antenna that converts the electric field near a high voltage power line conductor into a voltage. The output optical signals from the current sensor and the electric field sensor are received by respective optical receivers and converted into electric signals. A signal processing unit processes the signals, and a display screen displays the results. All these are mounted on a plastic mast for handheld operation.

    摘要: Two transversely poled fibers are disclosed which can be wound around a holder with their poling directions being anti-parallel. A coupling exchanges the polarization directions of the modes of the fibers. Thermally and mechanically caused birefringence changes can thereby be substantially cancelled, while electrical field induced birefringence changes can be added, to provide a more robust high voltage measuring device.
