    摘要: A system and method for the manufacture of a laser-welded cone-shell catalytic converter (100) is provided. An unformed shell blank (111) is formed into a cylindroid shell (110) having overlapping edges (112), which are then resistance welded to produce a shell seam (116). The shell seam (116) is planished to a thickness (120) less than 125 percent of a thickness (119) of the unformed shell blank (111). A ceramic catalytic substrate (130) is wrapped in a ceramic-fiber mounting mat (131) and inserted into the shell (110). Ends (125) of the shell (110) are crimped to form a 1 mm turndown (134). A pair of endcones (140) is assembled, where for each endcone (140) an outer cone (141) is loaded with an endcone insulation (142), and an inner cone (143) is pressed into and spot-welded to the outer cone (141). The endcones (140) are fitted to the shell (110) so as to form an overlap zone (151). The endcones (140) and shell (110) are then laser welded by an Nd:YAG laser (253) in the overlap zone (151).

    摘要: An air gap-insulated exhaust manifold for internal combustion engines. The manifold includes a flange with openings for fastening elements and further openings, which align with the cylinder exhaust ports of the internal combustion engine. A gas-tight outer shell is connected to the flange. An inner shell is provided with openings, which align with the cylinder exhaust ports of the internal combustion engine. The outer shell has a trough-shaped lower part and a hood-shaped upper part, which is welded gas-tight to the lower part. The inner shell has a trough-shaped lower part and a hood-shaped upper part. The outer shell is connected to the flange in a gas-tight manner. The inner shell is firmly attached to the outer shell at only one place.

    摘要: An exhaust device includes an exhaust pipe connected at its upstream end to a cylinder head of the engine and an exhaust muffler connected to the downstream end of the exhaust pipe for suppressing the generation of noise from a heat insulating cover that covers a part of the exhaust pipe. A heat insulating cover covers a portion of the exhaust pipe near the engine and a stay is fixed to the heat insulating cover. The stay includes a supporting plate portion curved so as to partially surround the outer circumference of the exhaust pipe. A first vibration isolating member is provided that is sandwiched between the outer circumference of the exhaust pipe and the supporting plate portion, a band member is tightened to mount the supporting plate portion to the exhaust pipe, and a second vibration isolating member is sandwiched between the supporting plate portion and the band member.

Yet still further disclosed herein is a method for determining condition of a particulate filter in situ including establishing a vacuum value for a clean particulate filter in situ, establishing a vacuum value for a used particulate filter in situ; and comparing the established value for the clean filter versus the used filter.

    摘要: An exhaust silencer allows for elongation of an inner cylinder relative to an outer cylinder. The exhaust silencer is assembled and constructed in such a way as to simplify the assembly process. A rear end portion of the outer cylinder is blocked with a stepped disc. A rear end portion of the inner cylinder is slidably mounted on a step portion of the stepped disc. A fuse portion is provided at the rear end portion of the inner cylinder and is welded to the step portion of the stepped disc. The fuse portion temporarily tacks the stepped disc to the inner cylinder during a temporary assembly stage. The fuse portion is so constructed that it will fracture as a result of thermal expansion of the inner cylinder, when exhaust gas flows through the exhaust silencer.
