    摘要: A muffler includes a tubular body having an interior surface extending between a first end and an opposing second end, the interior surface bounding a chamber. An exhaust cap is disposed on the second end of the tubular body, the exhaust cap having an interior surface bounding a channel that communicates with the chamber. An inlet cap is disposed on the first end of the tubular body. A perf tube is longitudinally disposed within the chamber of the tubular body. A spark arrestor includes a tubular neck advanced within the channel of the exhaust cap toward the body. A spark barrier is mounted on an end of the tubular neck so as to be at least partially disposed within the perf tube, the spark barrier being comprised of a sheet of mesh or porous material.

    摘要: A passive device is provided for reducing vibration and noise in a hydraulic system. The passive device includes a tubular element having an open end and a closed end. The open end of the tubular element is adapted to be attached to a fluid conduit carrying pressurized fluid in the system so that the tube fills with the pressurized fluid. The area and length of the tube are such that the fluid within the tube has a resonant condition at a frequency that is the same as at least one frequency of the vibration and noise that is to be reduced or removed in the hydraulic system. A helicopter is also provided having a hydraulic system of pressurized fluid for reducing the transfer of vibrations from the transmission to the airframe including the passive device. Several such passive devices may be applied at selected locations in a hydraulic system for effectively reducing high frequency vibration and noise due to, for example, helicopter transmission gear clashing.

    摘要: An exhaust muffler for a motor vehicle includes a louver tube having an intake end and an exhaust end. An outer tube, consisting of a frustoconical portion and a cylindrical portion, is concentrically arranged around the louver tube. A plurality of louvers and associated louver holes in the louver tube scoop a portion of gasses from the louver tube into the outer tube. An end cap, which includes an exhaust exit hole in its center, fits into an exhaust end of the outer tube. A plurality of end cap holes are arranged so that gasses leaving the outer tube flow through them. A restrictor disk between the end cap and louver tube includes a central hole coaxial with the louver tube and the exhaust exit hole of the end cap. Restrictor disk holes are in the restrictor disk between the central hole and its perimeter so that gasses leaving the louver tube flow through the central hole and the restrictor disk holes as they leave the muffler. A spiral vane defining a helical passage around the louver tube and inside the outer tube extends the path length of the gasses in the outer tube. A series of fins on the spiral vane extend orthogonal to an axis of the louver tube. A series of inner reverse cones are inside the louver tube upstream of its exhaust end. An exhaust system with this muffler is characterized by moderate backpressure at low rpms and little or negative backpressure at high rpms.

    摘要: A high performance muffler, e.g., for an internal combustion engine, reduces exhaust or other gas noise while maintaining a low backpressure to prevent engine power loss. A side inlet pipe connects gas to a muffler body. The inlet pipe is flared at its connection to the muffler body to direct flow of the gas through an inlet chamber of the muffler in a spiral path. In an example embodiment, the muffler body includes three chambers separated by panels. An inlet expansion chamber is adjacent to the inlet and includes a first pipe with a perforated portion. An intermediate expansion chamber adjacent to the inlet chamber receives the gas from the first pipe. Four small pipes at the exit end of the intermediate chamber extend into an outlet expansion chamber. The gas in the outlet expansion chamber exits the muffler body by an outlet pipe at the other end of the outlet expansion chamber. The muffler achieves a high sound reduction without increasing backpressure.

To amplify the active suppression of the sound level by the resonator with a resonator of the smallest possible overall size, the sound-transmitting opening in the tube wall is constructed as a peripheral annular gap in the tube wall.
