Abstract: A muffler having a muffler housing with a muffler chamber formed therein includes an outlet stub. In the stub, a channel is formed through which exhaust gases escape. The channel has a throttle location with a smallest flow cross-section and a discharge opening with a discharge flow cross-section. The channel is bounded by a wall. The flow cross-section increases substantially continuously from the smallest flow cross-section to the discharge flow cross-section at least in a section in the direction from the throttle location to the discharge opening. The stub has a fastening location at which it is held in an outlet opening of the muffler housing. The wall is closed continuously over its circumference from the throttle location to the discharge opening. The section of the channel extends in a sectional plane containing a center axis of the channel into a longitudinal section of the stub having the fastening location.

Abstract: The exhaust sound attenuation and control system includes an outer housing having an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe at opposite ends thereof. The interior of the housing includes upper, central, and lower exhaust sound attenuation elements. The exhaust gasses from the inlet pipe first enter the upper element and an upper arcuate flow guide directs the gasses leaving the upper element into the central element. A lower arcuate flow guide directs the gasses leaving the central element into the lower element. Gasses exiting the lower element are directed into the outlet pipe and exit the system. The upper element functions primarily as a muffler while the central and lower elements function as both a muffler and a resonator. The upper element includes a central elongated pipe surrounded by an outer housing. The central element includes a plurality of baffle elements. The lower element includes a plurality of baffle plates.

Abstract: Disclosed is a sound-absorbing silencer having a diffuse reflection structure. The silencer includes a housing including an inlet and an outlet formed in respective ends thereof to allow noise to be introduced thereinto and discharged therefrom and a noise-attenuating unit disposed in the housing to attenuate noise through diffuse reflection and absorption of the noise. The noise-attenuating unit includes a first diffuse reflection pipe disposed in the housing while being spaced apart from the housing, at least one second diffuse reflection pipe accommodated in the first diffuse reflection pipe while being spaced apart from the first diffuse reflection pipe to form a noise-attenuating path therebetween so that noise is diffusely reflected and absorbed while flowing through the noise-attenuating path, and a sound-absorbing member disposed between the first diffuse reflection pipe and the housing and in the second diffuse reflection pipe to absorb noise diffusely reflected in the noise-attenuating path.

Abstract: A muffler includes a housing defining a first chamber, a second chamber and a third chamber. The muffler includes at least a pair of nested protrusions in communication with an inlet. The pair of nested protrusions is coupled to a respective surface of a pair of plates disposed in the housing such that one of the pair of nested protrusions is spaced apart from and opposite another of the pair of nested protrusions to define a tortuous path that terminates at an outlet defined along an outer circumference. Abstract: An exhaust system noise reduction device of a vehicle enables an exhaust system to contribute to an increase in engine output while reducing engine exhaust noise. Abstract: An engine exhaust system includes a catalytic converter, an exhaust conduit connected upstream of the catalytic converter, and an oxygen sensor extending into the exhaust conduit at a first axial position of the exhaust conduit. A valve is located within the exhaust conduit at the first axial position. The valve includes a movable throttle plate having a bypass notch formed on a periphery of the plate. The valve has an open position, and a closed position in which the bypass notch is placed adjacent to the oxygen sensor to guide exhaust over the oxygen sensor.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for a combined spark arrestor and muffler assembly. In one example, a system may include a combined housing, the combined housing including a spark arrestor portion including a plurality of stator fins, and a muffler portion including acoustic packing, the muffler portion fluidically coupled to the spark arrestor portion via a first sliding joint and a second sliding joint. In this way, a single component of a vehicle exhaust system may reduce sparks and/or carbon deposits in exhaust gas, while also reducing exhaust noise.
