摘要: A method of manufacturing an exhaust gas carrying device, in particular an exhaust gas purification device, and a tool provided therefor include segment-like jaws that are used to deforma an outer housing. The jaws have indentations or projections adjacent to each other, and which are complementary to form a continuously surrounding indentation/projection. The reshaped outer housing is provided with one or more surrounding projections or indentations by the deformation.

摘要: A method is provided for providing external insulation for an exhaust gas aftertreatment or acoustic device, including the steps of (a) securing an insulating blanket around the exterior of the device, (b) securing a sheet of foil around the insulating blanket, (c) interconnecting a plurality of wires into a sleeve oriented in an axial direction by knitting or interweaving, whereby extending the sleeve in the axial direction biases the sleeve radially inwardly, (d) positioning the wire sleeve around the foil sheet, (e) welding one end of the wire sleeve to the device adjacent one end of the insulating blanket, (f) pulling the other end of the sleeve in the axial direction to bias the sleeve radially inwardly sufficiently to apply a compressive force to the insulating blanket, and (g) welding the other end of the sleeve to the device adjacent the other end of the insulating blanket.

摘要: Apparatus for inserting a substrate surrounded by a compressible mat into a compartment of a housing of an exhaust treatment device includes an insertion member having a bore shaped substantially identically to a shape of an opening to the housing compartment and a fluid bearing generator establishing a compressed fluid bearing at a surface of the bore. The fluid bearing is operative to reduce a coefficient of friction between the compressible mat and a surface of the bore when the substrate/mat combination is moved axially in the bore into the compartment opening.

摘要: A process is provided for manufacturing a catalytic converter formed from at least one monolith being held in a catalytic converter housing, especially a motor vehicle catalytic converter. A mounting mat (14) is placed on the outer circumferential surface (38) of the monolith (12) in the process, and the monolith (12) is subsequently stuffed together with the mounting mat (14) into the catalytic converter housing. To apply the mounting mat (14) on the monolith (12), the monolith (12) is set into rotation, while the mounting mat (14) is being fed tangentially and is carried by the monolith (12). A plant for carrying out the process is also provided as well as an application device (10).

摘要: A method includes the steps of (1) wrapping a shock absorbent member around a columnar member, (2) supporting one end portion of a cylindrical housing on a support member, (3) arranging the columnar member in a cylindrical guide member formed with the tapered portion inside thereof, (4) inserting the shock absorbent member and the columnar member into the cylindrical housing through the tapered portion, (5) pressing a pushing member to the columnar member so as to be moved along the longitudinal axis thereof relative to the cylindrical housing, to accommodate the shock absorbent member and the columnar member in the cylindrical housing, (6) moving the support member and a shrinking mechanism relative to each other, and (7) actuating the shrinking mechanism to reduce the diameter of a part of the cylindrical housing.

摘要: A method of assembling a catalytic converter comprising a ceramic catalyst substrate supported by a compressed resilient mat within a metal shell comprising the steps of: (1) providing a slave enclosure exhibiting a predetermined shape that substantially matches the shape of the ceramic substrate; (2) providing a layer of resilient supporting mat material on the inner surface of the enclosure; (3) mechanically pre-compressing the encircling mat layer against the inner surface of the slave enclosure; (4) inserting the substrate into the slave enclosure while retaining the encircling mat layer against the inner surface and without further compressing the mat layer; and (5) transferring the substrate and mat layer into the metal shell.

摘要: A process and an apparatus for forming an air gap pipe are provided. Inner and outer pipes are bent or deformed into comparable configurations such that the inner pipe can be mounted within the outer pipe. The outer pipe then is split longitudinally by a preprogrammed cutting apparatus. The cutting of the outer pipe terminates just short of the complete longitudinal length of the pipe to facilitate rematching later in the process. The cutter includes a follower to trace the actual configuration of the pipe and thereby to offset differences from one pipe to the next. An array of clamps are provided to align the outer pipe halves relative to one another and to facilitate the reattachment.

The carrier body is mounted within the housing by an intermediate layer arranged in compression between the circumferential surface of the carrier body and the housing. The intermediate layer is so compressed by the surrounding housing that it exerts a pressure on the surface of the carrier body in the range of 20 to 80 N/cm.sup.2.

One or more main portions are formed, the main portion of the housing defining a formed chamber in which the brick(s) compress the mat(s) between the brick(s) and the main portion to a predetermined density. One or more end portions are formed, for connection of the antipollution device in an exhaust system. When one or more transition portions are formed to connect the main portion(s) and the end portion(s), the main portion(s) is engaged by the apparatus to resist deformation of the formed chamber.
