Abstract: In one aspect, a method for a packet gateway node (PGW) is disclosed. The PGW being adapted for (a) communicating with at least a serving gateway node, SGW, (b) receiving and forwarding downlink data packets to a user entity, UE, and (c) communicating with a mobility management entity, MME. In one embodiment, the method comprises: the PGW, when receiving a downlink user plane data packet destined for the UE on a Packet Data Network, PDN, connection associated with a restarted SGW, determining if the PDN connection has not yet been relocated to a new SGW, and, if so, selecting at least one SGW from a set of SGWs including the restarted SGW or another SGW and transmitting a control plane signal to at least one of the selected SGWs, the control plane signal identifying at least the UE.

Abstract: A core network node creates a General Packet Radio Service, GPRS, Tunneling Protocol, GTP, message, which GTP message comprises a GTP header followed by at least one information element, IE, associated with a special IE type in a set of predefined IE types and which IE comprises a plurality of fields wherein the special IE type is identified by a value encoded in a predefined IE Type Field in a first Octet of the IE, the method comprising: reserving an IE Type Extension field in a fourth and fifth octet of the IE or in a fifth and sixth octet of the IE, for enabling a definition of an additional set of new IE types being an extension of the special IE type; and configuring the reserved IE Type Extension field so as to define at least one new IE type in addition to the predefined set of IE types.

Abstract: An intermediate network node manages location data of mobile terminals in a wireless communication network and includes a processing unit and a memory, which contains instructions executable by the processing unit, whereby the network node is operative to establish connection with one or more mobility management nodes in the network, establish connection with any one of network nodes requesting location data indicating the location of at least one mobile terminal, receive a request for the location data indicating the location of the at least one mobile terminal from a requesting network node of said network nodes, obtain a set of location information indicating the location of the at least one mobile terminal from at least one of the mobility management nodes, produce the requested location data from the obtained set of location information, and provide the produced location data to the requesting network node of said network nodes.

Abstract: Systems and methods for updating subscriber data are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a serving node in a communication network for updating subscriber data includes receiving a modification of subscriber data for one or more subscribers and determining if updates to the subscriber data for the one or more subscribers are needed now. In response to determining that updates are needed now, the method includes communicating the modification for subscribers to one or more additional nodes and/or initiating other types of signaling towards other network nodes as a result. In response to determining that updates are not needed now, the method includes postponing the communication of the modification of the subscriber data for the one or more subscribers. In this way, signaling floods towards external network elements may be avoided when a modification is performed to subscription data that affects multiple subscribers (potentially even millions).

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments include methods for establishing a user-requested protocol data unit (PDU) session in a user's visited public land mobile network (VPLMN), by a session management function (V-SMF) in the VPLMN. Such methods include receiving, from the H-SMF, a PDUSession_Update Request that includes an identifier of an SM context, in the H-SMF, that is associated with the PDU session. Embodiments also include complementary methods performed by the H-SMF.
