    摘要: An implant holder is provided having first and second gripping arms, each having a proximal portion with a mating element formed thereon for selectively mating to a medical device, and a distal portion adapted to at least partially circumferentially engage and axially align with a rod-receiving member, e.g., a head, of a spinal implant. The spinal implant holder further includes an actuator mechanism coupled to the first and second gripping arms and effective to move the gripping arms between an open position, in which the gripping arms can be positioned around the rod-receiving head of a spinal implant, and a closed position, in which the gripping arms engage the rod-receiving head of the spinal implant. A rod reduction device is also provided and includes an elongate inserter tool having a proximal end and a distal end with a fastener-retaining member formed thereon and adapted to retain a fastener therein. A reduction cowl is disposed around the fastener-retaining member and is preferably biased to a proximal position with respect to the fastener-retaining member. The device further includes an external housing disposed around at least a portion of the elongated inserter tool and having a first member that is adapted to couple to the proximal end of each gripping arm on the spinal implant holder, and a second member that is movable with respect to the outer sleeve and that is effective to apply a distally-directed force to the reduction cowl to advance a spinal rod disposed between the reduction cowl and the rod-receiving head of a spinal implant engaged by the spinal implant holder.

    摘要: Devices and methods for blocking and/or retaining a prosthetic spinal implant member in an intervertebral disc space are provided. In a first aspect of the invention the device comprises a first blocking member having an anchoring end and a blocking end. The anchoring end is anchored to a vertebra, and the blocking end is connected to a prosthetic spinal implant to keep the implant from being expelled from an intervertebral disc space. In a second embodiment the device further includes a second blocking member having an anchoring end and a blocking end. The anchoring end of the second blocking member is anchored to a vertebra, and the blocking end of the second blocking member is positioned to keep the prosthetic spinal implant from being expelled from an intervertebral disc space. Methods for anchoring a spinal implant are also provided.

    摘要: Instrumentation for implanting an intervertebral disc replacement device includes a retaining device comprising a threaded attachment member for threaded engagement with the at least one mounting screw hole in the flange of the intervertebral disc replacement device, and a head flange extending from the threaded attachment member, wherein a portion of the head flange is in part abuttingly received against a side of the flange of the intervertebral disc replacement device and another portion of the head flange is partially received over a portion of the bone screw to prevent the bone screw from backing out of the at least one bone screw hole when the retaining device is fully engaged with the intervertebral disc replacement device. The invention also comprises a method of preventing a bone screw from backing out of a bone screw hole in an intervertebral disc replacement device, comprising the steps of inserting a retaining device into a mounting hole in the intervertebral disc replacement device and tightening the retaining device in the mounting hole such that a portion of a head flange of the retaining device becomes flatter against a portion of the intervertebral disc replacement device and another portion of the head flange of the retaining device abuts against a portion of the bone screw.
