    摘要: An optical network unit (ONU) accesses services provided by multiple optical line terminals (OLTs) in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) passive optical network (PON). The ONU receives downstream signals from a first plurality of OLTs through a designated port of an arrayed waveguide (AWG). At any given time, the bandpass filter module can select any one of a first plurality of AWG cycles allocated to the first plurality of OLTs. Based on received downstream signals, the ONU transmits upstream signals to a second plurality of OLTs through the designated port of the AWG. At any given time, the bandpass filter module and a transmitter of the ONU can select any one of a second plurality of AWG cycles allocated to the second plurality of OLTs. The ONU may be configured with a plurality of receivers and transmitters, whereby it is enabled to simultaneously subscribe to a plurality of AWG cycles.

    摘要: An improved method and apparatus is provided for transmitting a WDM optical signal. The method begins by modulating optical channels that are each located at a different wavelength from one another with (1) a respective one of a plurality of information-bearing electrical signals that all embody the same broadcast information; (2) a respective one of a plurality of RF signals having a common functional broadcast waveform, at least one of the RF signals being out of phase with respect to remaining ones of the plurality of RF signal and (3) at least one of the RF signals being phase adjusted with respect to its original phase. Each of the modulated optical channels is multiplexed to form a WDM optical signal. The WDM optical signal, while maintaining the pre-assigned phase relationships between the modulation signals of the optical channels, is forwarded onto an optical transmission path.

    摘要: The subject of the present invention is to provide an optical transmitting device and an optical transmission system, capable of realizing an increase of multiple channels and an extension of a transmission distance at a low cost. In the present invention, the external modulation process is applied to a first optical signal (λ1), which is modulated by a transmission signal on a low frequency side for which low noise and distortion characteristics are required, out of the wideband frequency multiplexing electric signals by a first E/O converting unit (22). In contrast, the direct modulation process is applied to a second optical signal (λ2), which is modulated by a transmission signal on a high frequency side whose request for the transmission characteristic is not so high, by a second E/O converting unit (24) to execute an E/O conversion. As a result, an optical transmitting device and an optical transmission system, capable of realizing an increase of frequency range and multiple channels and an extension of a transmission distance can be manufactured at a low cost.

    摘要: An optical cable television system provides a large channel capacity and uses shared resources, whereby the more expensive hardware is shared over a large number of customers so as to minimize the cost per customer. A video switch network is provided which minimizes the temptation of subscribers to pirate signals since pay per view or on demand signals are provided only upon request of someone within a node corresponding to a neighborhood. An on demand program center continuously plays programs, such as movies, at time-staggered starts such that any subscriber will have only very minimal delays before seeing a particular program which is requested. A tuneable optical filter is provided in order to switch video signals onto an optical fiber going to the node in a particular neighborhood. An arrangement uses in-fiber grating in order to remove and insert different optical frequencies. Local insertion of various program sources, such as local commercials, is accomplished effectively by making such insertion at a relatively high point in the video distribution chain. An interface arrangement to provide on demand video signals to telephone company twisted pair wires is utilized.
