摘要: An optical line terminal is operable in a passive optical network. The optical line terminal includes a chassis. A plurality of optical subsystems are disposed within the chassis. Each optical subsystem is operable to generate optical signals for delivery to a port. Each optical subsystem includes one or more optical switches. When a fault condition is detected at a first optical subsystem preventing the delivery of first optical signals generated by the first optical subsystem to the port of the first optical subsystem, the optical switches switch to deliver second downstream optical signals generated by a second optical subsystem to the port of the first optical subsystem.

The receiver can include: a primary detector photodiode; a spare detector photodiode; and a receiver integrated circuit a primary receiver channel operably coupled with the at least one primary detector photodiode; a spare receiver channel operably coupled with the spare detector photodiode; a receiver switch on the spare receiver channel; and a secondary receiver channel operably coupled with the receiver switch and the primary receiver channel.

摘要: In some embodiments, an apparatus includes an optical transceiver that includes a first set of electrical transmitters operatively coupled to a switch. Each electrical transmitter from the first set of electrical transmitters is configured to transmit an electrical signal from a set of electrical signals. In such embodiments, the switch is configured to switch an electrical signal from the set of electrical signals such that the set of electrical signals are transmitted via a second set of electrical transmitters. Each electrical transmitter from the second set of electrical transmitters is operatively coupled to an optical transmitter from a set of optical transmitters. The set of optical transmitters is operatively coupled to an optical multiplexer. In such embodiments, at least one electrical transmitter from the second set of electrical transmitters is associated with a failure within the optical transceiver.

The plurality of optical network units communicate with the optical line terminal using an optical signal of a working wavelength uniquely assigned to each of them. The optical line terminal communicates with an optical network unit that is connected to the optical splitter using an optical signal of a working wavelength and an optical signal of a spare wavelength that is common to a plurality of optical networks.

摘要: Systems and methods for routing wavelengths in an optical network include responsive to a path request for a wavelength or group of wavelengths, determining a path through the optical network; determining a location on the path where wavelength blocking should occur to form a loop-free path in the optical network; and setting the wavelength blocking at the location. The optical network can utilize a broadcast and select architecture and the wavelength blocking is configured to prevent the wavelength or group of wavelengths from looping back on a port where the wavelength or group of wavelengths has already been received on. The optical network can utilize an all-broadcast architecture and the wavelength blocking is configured to prevent multiple paths for the wavelength or group of wavelengths by constraining the wavelength or group of wavelengths to a single path through the optical network.

摘要: A communication system includes a primary module with: first trunk and branch input and output ports, each coupled to first in/out couplers, the first in/out couplers coupled to first circulators, and the circulators in turn coupled to first central couplers; second trunk branch input and output ports, each coupled to second in/out couplers, each of second in/out couplers coupled to second circulators; and first and second bidirectional wavelength-selective switches (WSSes) coupled to the first central couplers. The system also includes a secondary module with first trunk and branch input and output ports, each coupled to first in/out couplers, the first in/out couplers coupled to third circulators, and the circulators in turn coupled to second central couplers; second trunk branch input and output ports, each coupled to second in/out couplers, each of second in/out couplers coupled to fourth circulators, and third and fourth bidirectional wavelength-selective switches (WSSes) coupled to the second central couplers. The system further includes one or more 2×2 switches coupling the primary module WSS outputs with the secondary module WSS outputs.
