Abstract: An optical communication system includes an optical line terminal and a plurality of optical network units connected by optical transfer paths. The optical line terminal includes a light transmitting/receiving unit and a control unit. The light transmitting/receiving unit transmits/receives an optical signal to/from the plurality of optical network units via the optical transfer paths. The control unit performs control to change a launch power of an optical signal transmitted from the light transmitting/receiving unit, such that, when, regarding at least one optical network unit, a monitoring value has changed to a value indicating deterioration, a receive power of an optical signal in each of the plurality of optical network units is lower than or equal to an upper limit value and a receive power of an optical signal in the optical network unit in which the monitoring value has changed is higher than or equal to a lower limit value.

Abstract: Provided is a multiplex transmission system capable of achieving a redundant configuration for coping with a failure while reducing useless resources. A multiplex transmission system includes a first multiplex transmission apparatus 100, a second multiplex transmission apparatus 200, a resource pool 130 having resources capable of selectively constructing one or more functions among a plurality of functions, and a management control unit 140 for controlling the resource pool 130. The first multiplex transmission apparatus 100 includes a plurality of client ports. During normal time, a function associated with each of the plurality of client ports is constructed in the resource pool 130. When a failure occurs, the management control unit 140 controls the resource pool 130 so as to release a resource in which is constructed a function associated with a port with a low priority among the plurality of client ports and to construct, in the resource, a function necessary for restoring signal transmission associated with a port with a high priority among the plurality of client ports.

Abstract: A fully connectorized optic fiber tap assembly is described that includes a first upstream connector interface configured to receive a downstream connector of a first upstream optic fiber line, and a first downstream connector interface configured to receive an upstream connector of a first downstream optic fiber line. The tap assembly further includes a set of service drop line connector interfaces. Moreover, an optic fiber tap of the assembly is configured to: receive an optical signal from the upstream connector interface, extract a portion of the optical signal, direct the extracted portion of the optical signal to the set of service drop line connector interfaces, and pass a remaining portion of the optical signal to the downstream connector interface. The fully connectorized optic fiber tap assembly is configured to be connected to the first upstream optic fiber line and the first downstream optic fiber line without splicing.

Abstract: Disclosed is a solution for monitoring an operation of an optical fiber. An arrangement for the purpose includes: an indicator device arranged to: receive, from an optical component, a sample of a signal conveyed in the communication channel; determine an indicator value indicative of an amount of light in the sample of the signal; and a computing device arranged to compare the indicator value to a reference value, and set a detection result to express either that the sample of the signal carries a predefined amount of light or the predefined amount of light is absent from the sample. Also disclosed is a method, a computing device, a computer program product and a communication system thereto.

Abstract: A communication system of a passive optical communication network includes an optical line terminal (OLT) system including a first OLT, a second OLT, and an OLT control device that controls the first OLT and the second OLT, a plurality of splitters that connect the first OLT and the second OLT with an optical communication path, and an ONU that is connected to each of the splitters with an optical communication path. The splitter distributes and outputs an optical signal transmitted from the OLT system to the ONU connected to the splitter and a succeeding device that is another splitter or the OLT system, and the OLT control device determines a distribution ratio at the splitter, the distribution ratio indicating a ratio between the intensity of the optical signal distributed to the succeeding device and the intensity of the optical signal distributed to the ONU.

Abstract: Systems and methods for horizontal synchronization are implemented by a first node with a second node adjacent to the first node in a network with a control plane. The horizontal synchronization manages and corrects for a state of a service which is resizable. The systems and methods include providing a first horizontal synchronization message to the second node with a first state comprising the state of the service at the node and a first size comprising a size of the service at the node; receiving a second horizontal synchronization message from the second node with a second state comprising the state of the service at the second node and a second size comprising a size of the service at the second node; detecting a mismatch of the service with the second node based on the second horizontal synchronization message; and performing a recovery action to correct the mismatch.

Abstract: Partial survivability systems and methods implemented in a node in an Optical Transport Unit Cn (OTUCn) network include, subsequent to an optical carrier (Optical Tributary Signal (OTSi)) failure of a plurality of optical carriers, determining which Optical Data Unit k (ODUk) services in an OTUCn associated with the OTSi are affected; signaling a partial failure for the OTUCn and a failure only for the affected ODUk services; adjusting overhead associated with the OTUCn based on the OTSi failure; and applying actions to the affected ODUk services subsequent to the OTSi failure. The signaling of the partial failure can include signaling one or more of a partial Alarm Indication Signal (P-AIS), a partial Backward Defect Indication (P-BDI), and a partial Server Signal Fail (P-SSF) for the OTUCn, and the signaling the failure can include signaling one or more of AIS, BDI, and SSF only for the affected ODUk services.
