A lubricant for a refrigerating unit uses a hydrofluorocarbon system refrigerant with a polyol ester system oil as its base oil. The purity of hydrofluorocarbon system refrigerant is set to a level higher than 99.95 wt % and the mixing of chlorine impurity in the system refrigerant is set at a level lower than 80 ppm. The performance and reliability of a refrigerating unit using the hydrofluorocarbon system refrigerant, such as R134a, can be enhanced by making the polyol ester system oil of a chemical compound having particular physical properties, by suppressing the equilibrium water content of refrigeration cycle and by limiting the residual volume.

An object of the present invention is to obtain a good refrigerator using polyvinyl ether oil as a refrigerator oil, which is compatible with a hydrofluorocarbon type refrigerant not containing chlorine (such as R134a) without suffering conventional problems. A switching power supply according to the present invention employs a transformer having a primary coil and a secondary coil, a switching circuit connected between an input terminal and the primary coil of the transformer, a rectifier connected to the secondary coil of the transformer, a smoothing circuit located at a subsequent stage of the rectifier and including an output capacitor, a control circuit controlling the switching circuit, and an operating voltage generating circuit, responsive to an instruction for stopping a switching operation, for supplying an operating voltage to the control circuit using at least energy stored in the output capacitor. Thus, the switching power supply of the present invention can substantially linearly lower the output voltage Vout.
