Abstract: A highly secure optical key access control system utilizing unique optical refraction properties of non-duplicatable transparent objects to secure premises or computer databases is disclosed. The said access control system includes an optical key containing an optical element with unique refraction properties and an access module comprising a light source, an image catching array and an electronic processor. The optical element of the optical key is inserted into the access module between the light source and the image catching array at the initial and then several following prearranged positions and a resulting set of unique refraction images appearing on the surface of the image catching array is processed with the electronic processor for comparison against preauthorized sets of refraction images to grant or deny access to the protected premises or protected computer databases.

Abstract: A method is provided which reduces the transition time and/or the polymer waste in a continuous polymerization plant and/or process having a back-mixing reactor when polymer grades are changed from a first polymer grade to a second polymer grade. A monomer(s) and processing agent(s) are introduced to the reactor. The concentration of the processing agent(s) in a feed stream to the reactor is varied as a function of time from a first value associated with the first polymer grade to a final value associated with the second polymer grade. During the concentration variation one or more intermediate values of processing agent concentration are adjusted between at a first value, an intermediate value(s), and a final value. The intermediate values may be maintained for a time which is calculated on the basis of only residence time and steady-state correlations between input and output of the reactor and/or of the polymerization plant. The method is performed without performing dynamic modelling.

Abstract: A method of operating an electromechanical actuator (EMA) system includes determining a command time remaining for an actuator to attain a commanded position and determining a stop time required to stop movement of the actuator. The command time is compared to the stop time, and an electric motor driving the actuator is decelerated if the stop time is equal to or greater than the command time. An electromechanical actuator system includes an actuator and an electric motor operably connected to the actuator, the electric motor configured to drive movement of the actuator. A controller is operably connected to the electric motor to control operation of the actuator. The controller is configured to determine a command time remaining, determine a stop time, compare the command time to the stop time, and decelerate the electric motor if the stop time is equal to or greater than the command time.

Abstract: Systems and methods verifying a user during authentication of an integrated device. In one embodiment, the system includes an integrated device and an authentication unit. The integrated device stores biometric data of a user and a plurality of codes and other data values comprising a device ID code uniquely identifying the integrated device and a secret decryption value in a tamper proof format, and when scan data is verified by comparing the scan data to the biometric data, wirelessly sends one or more codes and other data values including the device ID code. The authentication unit receives and sends the one or more codes and the other data values to an agent for authentication, and receives an access message from the agent indicating that the agent successfully authenticated the one or more codes and other data values and allows the user to access an application.

Abstract: The present embodiments are directed to locating electrical faults in an electrical circuit, in particular electrical faults in transmission wires of an electrical circuit. Examples of the present embodiments provide a method and apparatus for opening a switch in the electrical circuit to cause an open circuit or discontinuity at the fault; transmitting a signal to be reflected from the open circuit or discontinuity and receiving the signal reflected from the open circuit or discontinuity to determine the location of the fault. Examples are particularly suitable for high voltage systems, for example over 100V.

Abstract: A soil moisture sensor and a soil moisture sensing system are provided. The soil moisture sensor includes a double groove helical structure having grooves and formed from an insulator. The soil moisture sensor further includes at least a first electrode and a second electrode formed from one or more metals deposited at at least two different locations on the grooves. The soil moisture sensor also includes a processor for processing a soil moisture measurement signal based on a conductivity between the electrodes. The soil moisture sensor additionally includes a wireless transmitter for transmitting the soil moisture measurement signal to a remote location.
