摘要: A resistor network with reduced area and/or improved voltage resolution and methods of designing and operating the same are provided. Generally, the resistor network includes a resistor ladder with a first number (n) of integrated resistors coupled in series between a top and a bottom contact, with one or more contacts coupled between adjacent resistors. A second number of integrated resistors is coupled in parallel between the top and bottom contacts, and a third number of integrated resistors is coupled in series between the second integrated resistors and either the top or the bottom contact. Each of the integrated resistors has a resistance of R, and a voltage developed across each resistor in the resistor ladder is equal to a voltage applied between the top and bottom contacts divided by n. Where the second number is n-1, and the third number is 1, the total number of resistors is 2n.

摘要: A method for characterizing a process fluid comprising applying electrical power to a first resistance temperature detector (RTD) in contact with a fluid to increase the temperature of the first RTD; allowing the first RTD to cool toward a fluid equilibrium temperature; analyzing the temperature decay profile of the first RTD over time to determine thermal characteristics; applying electrical power to a second RTD in contact with the fluid to increase the temperature of the second RTD; allowing the second RTD to cool toward the fluid equilibrium temperature; analyzing the temperature decay profile of the second RTD over time to determine thermal characteristics; comparing the thermal characteristics of the first and second RTD to determining one or more characteristics of the fluid based; and performing a corrective action. The first RTD has a first coating and the second RTD has a second coating different than the first coating.

摘要: A structure includes a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) resistor for use in gallium nitride (GaN) technology. The NTC resistor includes a p-type doped GaN (pGaN) layer, and a gallium nitride (GaN) heterojunction structure under the pGaN layer. The GaN heterojunction structure includes a barrier layer and a channel layer. An isolation region extends across an interface of the barrier layer and the channel layer, and a first metal electrode is on the pGaN layer spaced from a second metal electrode on the pGaN layer. The NTC resistor can be used as a temperature compensated reference in a structure providing a temperature detection circuit. The temperature detection circuit includes an enhancement mode HEMT sharing parts with the NTC resistor and includes temperature independent current sources including depletion mode HEMTs.

摘要: A three-phase load is powered by an SPWM driven inverter having a single shunt-topology. During operation, drain-to-source resistances of transistors of each branch of the inverter are determined. Interpolation is performed on assumed drain-to-source resistances of the transistors for different temperatures to produce a non-linear model of drain-to-source resistance to temperature for the transistors, and the drain-to-source resistances determined during operation and the non-linear model are used to estimate temperature values of the transistors. Driving of the inverter can be adjusted so that conductivity of each branch is set so that power delivered by that branch is as high as possible without exceeding an allowed drain current threshold representing a threshold junction temperature. In addition, driving of the inverter can be ceased if the temperature of a transistor exceeds the threshold temperature.

摘要: A two-dimensional resistance temperature detector for determining average temperature over a surface may include a continuous length of insulated wire having a first end and a second end. The insulated wire may be arranged to form a mesh structure with respective sections of the insulated wire overlapping and contacting one another. A method for determining average temperature over a surface may include positioning a two-dimensional resistance temperature detector over the surface such that an insulated wire of the two-dimensional resistance temperature detector directly contacts the surface, determining a resistance of the insulated wire, and determining an average surface temperature based at least in part on the resistance of the insulated wire. The insulated wire may be arranged to form a mesh structure with respective sections of the insulated wire overlapping and contacting one another.

摘要: A spinning flat plate calorimeter device is provided for receiving and measuring laser energy. The device includes a circular disk, a shaft, a structure and a motor. The plate has an obverse face for receiving the laser energy and a reverse face with a spiral groove for attaching the instrumentation. The yoke wheel attaches to the shaft. The thermal isolator spacers mechanically attach the yoke wheel to the flat plate.
