Abstract: A system for operating a robotic prosthetic limb includes a brain machine interface (BMI) configured to sense neuron activity of a user and generate a signal indicating the sensed neuron activity and a robotic prosthetic limb configured to wirelessly communicate with the BMI. The robotic prosthetic limb includes motors connected configured to actuate the robotic prosthetic limb, a processor, and a memory. The memory includes instructions which when executed by the processor cause the system to: communicate a signal from the BMI to the robotic prosthetic limb, the signal including neuron activity of the user; input the neuron activity into four machine learning models configured to generate individual predictions of a movement of the robotic prosthetic limb; generate a motor control signal, for each of the one or more motors by averaging the individual predictions; and actuate the robotic prosthetic limb in response to the generated motor control signals.

Abstract: Features for a prosthetic wrist and associated methods are described. The wrist couples with a prosthetic socket and a prosthetic hand. The wrist may rotate the hand. The wrist includes features to prevent or mitigate undesirable separation of the wrist from the socket. The wrist may have an expanding coupling, such as an expanding ring, to better secure the wrist with the socket. An actuator may cause the coupling to expand outward to prevent or mitigate undesirable separation of the wrist from the socket. Alternatively or in addition, the wrist may include torque control features to prevent undesirable or premature separation of the hand from the wrist, for example when using a “quick wrist disconnect” (QWD) apparatus. A torque control method may tailor or limit multiple torques to be applied by the wrist to the hand based on operational requirements and phases, such as anticipated torque loads and operational timing.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method of controlling a prosthetic device. The method includes acquiring electromyographic (EMG) signals from one or more active electrodes configured to be in physical contact with a user, analyzing the acquired electromyographic (EMG) signals to determine the intent of the user and measuring one or more positional covariates associated with the user's residual limb. The method further includes controlling the prosthetic device in proportional response to the determined intent, wherein signal variations caused due to the positional covariates are compensated and providing multi-point sensory feedback to the user in response to the dynamics of the device, wherein the sensory feedback is provided via a wearable device that can be donned on or off by the user.

Abstract: A biometric sensor array system may include a skin contact layer, a flexible printed circuit board (“PCB”), and a plurality of force sensing resistors (“FSRs”). The flexible PCB may be positioned adjacent the skin contact layer and may have a connector tail. Each FSR may be positioned on the flexible PCB. The connector tail may be adapted to electrically connect the plurality of FSRs to a signal receiving component. The flexible PCB may be configured so that one or more of the plurality of FSRs may be trimmed away from the flexible PCB so that the connector tail is still adapted to electrically connect a remaining one or more of the plurality of FSRs to the signal receiving component.

Abstract: A biological activity detection apparatus includes: a drive unit that actively or passively drives in conjunction with a limb motion of a subject; a periarticular detection unit that detects a periarticular physical quantity around a joint in association with the limb motion of the subject based on an output signal from the drive unit; a biological signal detection unit located at a body surface site of the subject with reference to the joint and includes an electrode group for detecting a biological signal of the subject, wherein an activity status of a musculoskeletal system and/or a transmission status of a peripheral nervous system around the joint are converted into quantitative musculoskeletal system data and/or nervous system data on the basis of the physical quantity acquired from the periarticular detection unit and a myogenic potential signal and a neural transmission signal which are acquired from the biological signal processing unit.

Abstract: Methods, systems and devices that provide a therapeutic solution to alleviate the pain and discomfort of phantom limb syndrome are disclosed. The methods and systems of the present invention generally comprise capturing data from recording devices operably coupled to a processor and/or computing device, the recording devices configured to capture data associated with intact portions of a missing limb, one or more intact limbs and/or portions of the environment surrounding the missing limb, identifying the data captured, generating a three-dimensional virtual image of the missing limb and the surrounding environment from the data captured, and displaying the three-dimensional virtual image and the portions of the surrounding environment to the amputee such that the missing limb appears intact. The present invention advantageously provides a therapeutic and more immediate solution to alleviate the pain and discomfort from phantom limb syndrome.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems and methods for insertion tools for implanting electrode leads. In one embodiment, an insertion tool comprises a shaft having an outer cannula and an inner cannula. An actuator may be configured to transition the insertion tool between at least three configurations. In a first configuration, the inner cannula and the outer cannula are configured to receive the lead in the shaft. In a second configuration, the inner cannula and the outer cannula are configured to secure the lead in the shaft. In a third configuration, the inner cannula and the outer cannula are configured to cause the lead to separate from the insertion tool and implant in adjacent tissue.
