Abstract: Systems for delivering therapy to a nerve in a patient may comprise a plurality of sensors, such as a cardiac sensor, a disease activity sensor, and a bodily activity sensor, an implantable pulse generator, and an implantable signal delivery device. The implantable signal delivery device may be configured to deliver a stimulation signal to the nerve. The implantable pulse generator may comprise a microcontroller configured to calculate a heart rate parameter from cardiac data received from the cardiac sensor, calculate a disease activity parameter from disease activity data received from the disease activity sensor, calculate a bodily activity parameter from bodily activity data received from a bodily activity sensor, determine an autonomic nervous system state, physiological state, and/or disease state of the patient based on the heart rate parameter, the disease activity parameter, and the bodily activity parameter, and adjust a nerve stimulation parameter of a stimulation signal based on the determined autonomic nervous system state, the physiological state, and/or the disease state.

Abstract: An adapter to add optical stimulation to a stimulation system includes an adapter body and a connector disposed on the distal end of the adapter body. The connector includes a connector body defining a port and a connector lumen; connector contacts disposed in the connector body and arranged along the connector lumen; and a light source disposed in the connector body. The adapter also includes terminals disposed along the proximal end of the adapter body and conductors extending along the adapter body and electrically coupling the connector contacts and the light source to the terminals. The adapter may be used with an optical stylet that fits into a stimulation lead which is, in turn, coupled to the connector of the adapter. Alternatively, the adapter can include a fiber optic coupled to the light source and configured to extend into the stimulation lead.

Abstract: A system and method for selecting a trajectory within the brain for placement of a stimulation probe for deep brain stimulation (DBS) treatment of an individual afflicted with an illness, condition, or disorder. Electrophysiological data attained within the brain of the individual is utilized with clinically determined regions of stimulation (for example, volume of tissue activated (VTA)) of other similarly-afflicted individuals having a positive operative outcome to assign an objective score, independent of anatomical structure (for example, not constrained within the subthalamic nucleus (STN)) to facilitate selection among prospective trajectories for placement of the stimulation probe during DBS.

Abstract: Systems and methods for treating a gastrointestinal condition of a patient includes minimally invasively implanting a modular stimulator system in a patient's treatment site. The modular stimulator system comprises a microstimulator module, a small power source module and a macrostimulator module that are detachably attachable to each other. For the first phase of treatment, the microstimulator module and power source are implanted with a stimulating electrode proximate a target tissue. Electrical stimulation is provided for a short period of time and treatment efficacy is evaluated through clinical results and patient reporting. If therapy is not effective, stimulation parameters can be changed and/or the implantation site can be moved. If therapy is effective, portions of the microstimulator module and/or small power source are replaced with the macrostimulator module for long term therapy of the second phase of treatment.

Abstract: The disclosure provides systems and methods for treating sleep-disordered breathing (e.g., obstructive sleep apnea) using a system comprising an inertial measurement unit (IMU) which includes an accelerometer and/or a gyroscope, wherein the IMU is configured to detect movement by a human subject and to generate data based on the detected movement. Positional and/or movement data generated by the IMU is used by a stimulation system to detect gross movement by the subject, and to deliver electrical stimulation to a nerve which innervates an upper airway muscle (e.g., a hypoglossal nerve) in response to the detection of gross movement, in order to treat the subject.

Abstract: Described herein are methods for monitoring or modulating an immune system in a subject; treating, reducing or monitoring inflammation; monitoring blood pressure; treating hypertension; or administering or adjusting a therapy for inflammation or hypertension in a patient by electrically stimulating the splenic nerve or detecting splenic nerve activity using an implanted medical device. Also described herein are implantable medical devices for performing such methods. The implanted medical device includes an ultrasonic transducer configured to receive ultrasonic waves and convert energy from the ultrasonic waves into an electrical energy that powers the device, two or more electrodes in electrical communication with the ultrasonic transducer that are configured to electrically stimulate a splenic nerve or detect a splenic nerve activity, and optionally a splenic nerve attachment member.

Abstract: Various aspects of this disclosure relate to a prosthetic cover comprising an array of sensors, which transmit signals to an array of electrodes in a liner that fits over a residual limb of an amputee. Different interactions with the prosthetic cover cause different activation of the electrodes to transmit electrical current through different areas of the residual limb and modulate neurons differently within the residual limb.
