摘要: Certain embodiments described herein provide a surgical ear speculum comprising a tubular body having an anterior end, a posterior end, and a first length from the anterior end to the posterior end. The tubular body has an inner layer, an outer layer, and a middle layer between the inner layer and the outer layer. The inner layer, the outer layer, and the middle layer are peripherally disposed around a central cavity of the surgical ear speculum. The central cavity extends from the anterior end of the surgical ear speculum to the posterior end of the surgical ear speculum. The inner layer comprises a first membrane, and the outer layer comprises a second membrane. The middle layer comprises an expandable and contractible wire mesh disposed between the first membrane and the second membrane.

摘要: A device for visualizing and providing suction for a surgical procedure in an ear may include a handle, a main shaft extending from the handle, an imaging sensor at a distal end of the main shaft, a light source at the distal end of the main shaft, and a suction shaft extending from the handle. The device may also include a spring coupled with the suction shaft and/or the handle, such that when the suction shaft is advanced in a distal direction and then released, the suction shaft retracts automatically. The suction shaft may have a distal curved portion, and the device may have a thumb depress portion that allows a user to spin the suction shaft to suction in different directions. Some embodiments may include a suction shaft with a sharp distal tip that is configured for placing an ear tube in the tympanic membrane.

摘要: A two-position handpiece coupling seal is provided. The two-position handpiece coupling seal includes a neck disposed at a first end that is configured to receive an implement. The two-position handpiece coupling seal has a first seal disposed about the neck of the two-position handpiece coupling seal. The first seal is configured to engage with a surface of a housing of a handpiece that uses the two-position coupling seal in a first position. The two-position handpiece coupling seal has a second seal disposed about a bore of the two-position handpiece coupling seal at a second end of the two-position handpiece coupling seal opposite the first end. The bore is configured to receive a driveshaft and the second seal is configured to sealingly engage with the driveshaft when the bore receives the driveshaft.

摘要: A dilation catheter includes a shaft and an expandable element. The shaft includes a proximal portion and a distal portion. The distal portion includes a tip and a bend. The tip is sized and configured to pass through an isthmus of a Eustachian tube (ET). The bend is proximal to the tip. The bend is formed at an angle configured to provide insertion of the tip into the isthmus of the ET via an ear canal associated with the ET. The expandable element is disposed at the distal portion of the shaft. The expandable element is configured to transition between a non-expanded state and an expanded state. The expandable element in the non-expanded state is configured for insertion into the ET via the isthmus. The expandable element in the expanded state is configured to dilate the ET.

摘要: A balloon is provided for insertion into a mammalian eustachian tube. The balloon is a high pressure balloon having a body including a proximal end, a distal end, an exterior surface and an interior surface defining an air receivable interior. The body having a plurality of segments of different cross sectional areas, and a non-circular cross sectional profile. The balloon is inflatable between a deflated configuration and an inflated configuration. The body is sufficiently inelastic so as to be substantially incapable of expanding beyond a pre-determined size and shape when in the inflated configuration. The segments include a first segment having a first cross sectional area and a second segment disposed distally of the first segment The second segment has a second cross sectional area larger than the first cross sectional area.

摘要: The invention deals with a steerable catheter system. Such systems are used in Minimal Invasive Systems (MIS) for getting access to difficult to reach places, like body cavities or blood vessels in for instance the human anatomy. The steerable catheter comprises a polymer shaft with a bending portion that comprises a pulling wire mechanically anchored at a distal part of the bending portion, where the shaft is provided with a central lumen and a force sensor at the distal part. According to the invention the pulling wire is the connecting wire to the force sensor and the pulling wire is mechanically anchored by a connector between the pulling wire and the force sensor.

The distal end includes an inner part which has at least one area that is plastically deformable by manual force, for adaptation to a patient-dependent access angle of the Eustachian tube, and an outer tube which surrounds the inner part at a radial distance and which delimits an annular gap for receiving the stent, with the stent in the annular gap made of nitinol and being self-expanding.
