摘要: This invention provides a soldering iron that heats the tip and emits inert gas near the tip. This is accomplished by providing a heater cartridge having a top or tip end and a base end with a soldering tip at the top end, an input opening closer to the base end and an output opening closer to the top end. The soldering iron also includes a gas injector having a gas chamber adapted to receive the heater cartridge such that the input opening of the heater cartridge is within the gas chamber so that gas is injected into the input opening. At least a portion of the top end and the output opening of the heater cartridge is enclosed with an exhaust pipe to form a gas passage between the outer surface of the heater cartridge and the exhaust pipe. As such, gas injected through the input opening passes through the opening within the heater cartridge and exit through the output opening, then pass through the gas passage and emit through an outlet defined by the space between the top end and the exhaust pipe to provide inert gas near the tip.

The apparatus includes first and second co-operable dies structured to define a die cavity therebetween for at least partially receiving the preform, at least one heater in thermal communication with the die cavity for heating the preform to a forming temperature, and at least one injector in fluid communication with the die cavity. The injector is structured for injecting pressurized gas into the die cavity to urge the preform against one of the dies to form the preform into the structural assembly. Further, at least one of the injectors is structured for injecting a quenchant into the die cavity to thereby heat treat the structural assembly while distortion of the structural assembly is being at least partially restrained by at least one of the dies.

摘要: A plurality of flash lamps are covered with a reflector. Optical fiber members are attached to the reflector on portions located immediately above the flash lamps. When the flash lamps emit flash light toward a semiconductor wafer, the optical fiber members partially guide the emitted light so that a CCD measures the intensity of light emitted from each of the plurality of flash lamps. A computer detects the emission state of each of the plurality of flash lamps on the basis of a result of measurement. At this time, the computer compares standard luminous intensity obtained when the irradiation state on the semiconductor wafer satisfies a prescribed criterion with the luminous intensity in actual processing for detecting the emission states of the plurality of flash lamps. Thus provided is a thermal processing apparatus capable of reliably and simply detecting deterioration of lamps.

摘要: An apparatus and method provided for utilizing radiation pressure provided by a light wave to generate mechanical work. The apparatus includes a containment chamber constructed to contain the propagation of light waves therein along a predetermined reflected light wave path. The apparatus also an optic switch selectively operable in an open mode and a closed mode, wherein the open mode allows a light wave to enter the containment chamber and the closed mode prevents escape of the light wave from the containment chamber. Further, the apparatus has a reflective mirror positioned at one end of the containment chamber. The reflective mirror has a first reflective surface. The apparatus also includes second reflective surface positioned at a second end of the containment chamber, wherein the predetermined light path extends between the first and second reflective surfaces; and wherein repeated contact of the light path against the first reflective surface allows radiation pressure repeatedly acting upon the first reflective surface to cause the movable reflective mirror to travel along a predetermined path, thereby producing mechanical work.
