    摘要: A spark plug combustion ionization sensor for measuring ion current inside the cylinder of an internal combustion engine. The sensor measures ion current which flows when the energy released during combustion ionizes the air inside the cylinder, and thus can detect combustion and emission parameters. The spark plug combustion ionization sensor generally includes an insulated, dedicated sensing electrode, separate from the sparking electrode of a spark plug. The sensing electrode may also be shielded to further reduce interference such as electromagnetic interference (EMI). The use of a dedicated electrode allows for ion current measurement with less electromagnetic noise from the ignition process, and also eliminates the need for circuitry that is typically necessary when the sparking electrode is also used to sense ion current.

On a cross section taken along the axial line so as to include the axial line, in a case where a plurality of points are plotted at predetermined intervals in a direction of the axial line so as to be present on a partial boundary line, within an arbitrary range in the direction of the axial line, of a boundary line between the insulator and the resistor, and a regression line is drawn by a least-squares method with use of the plurality of points, an average value of distances in a direction perpendicular to the regression line between the regression line and the partial boundary line is 0.1 to 0.3 μm.

The conductor includes a base and a conductive layer disposed on an outer periphery of the base and having higher electrical conductivity than the base, and the conductive layer has a thickness of larger than 0.1 μm and equal to or smaller than 25 μm.

    摘要: In a metallic shell, cutting traces are formed on the inner circumferential surface of a trunk portion and the inner circumferential surface of an elongated leg portion. A first portion of a packing is in contact with and disposed between the rear end surface of a ledge portion of the metallic shell and the outer circumferential surface of a step portion of an insulator. A second portion of the packing is in contact with and disposed between the inner circumferential surface of a trunk portion of the metallic shell and the outer circumferential surface of a tubular portion of the insulator. A gap between the inner circumferential surface of the elongated leg portion and the outer circumferential surface of the leg portion is approximately uniform along the entire circumference.

    摘要: A tip that contains a noble metal is joined to a joining surface of an electrode base material of a ground electrode via a welded portion. On cross-sections of the tip and the electrode base material in a longitudinal direction of the joining surface, the welded portion has a void above the joining surface, and a continuous distance of the welded portion on the joining surface is less than or equal to 0.5 mm, whereby thermal stress due to a difference in thermal expansion between the tip and the electrode base material can be reduced. A total of continuous distances of the welded portions on the joining surface, are 0.4 times to 0.8 times a length from an end of the tip to another end thereof, whereby joining strength of the welded portion can be assured. Peeling at the tip or falling-off of the tip due to thermal stress can be less likely to occur, whereby durability of the ground electrode can be improved.
