Abstract:
An embedded transformer device includes first, second, and auxiliary windings, defined in an insulating substrate by conductive vias joined together by conductive traces. The positions of the conductive vias are arranged to optimize the isolation properties of the transformer and to reduce the coupling of the transformer by increasing the leakage inductance. The embedded transformer device provides better isolation between input side and output side windings, and allows an oscillating LC circuit to be set up in the case of a short circuit, preventing high power from extending between the input and output terminals and thereby avoiding damage to the connected electrical components.
Abstract:
A wirewound balun transformer for planar packaging comprising a flanged core which has end flanges at both ends, at least one center flange, and two or more winding recesses, a flat core held in parallel with the flanged core, and windings coiled around the winding recesses, characterized in that one side face of the center flange is not flush with but is formed behind the plane that connects one side faces on the same side of the end flanges, each of the end flanges of the flanged core has an opposing pair of electrodes formed on both side faces, and the center flange has a single electrode formed on the opposite side face.
Abstract:
A cable coupling trandformer having a metal or ferrite member defining separate high permeability portions of a pair of flux paths, a winding electromagnetically associated with each high permeability portion, and a common low permeability portion of each flux path which passes between a pair of conductors carrying equal currents in antiphase. A portion of the current induced in either the conductors or the windings are impressed on the other to create a simple communications device.
Abstract:
A low-profile, high-frequency power transformer is comprised of a plurality of insulated ferrite slabs formed in a stacked array. In one embodiment a pair of slots are defined through the stacked array of insulated slabs. A single-turn metallic ribbon conductor is then looped through each pair of slots to form a corresponding first and second loop which are coupled in a magnetic flux circuit with each other through the stack. The distance separating one pair of slots is unequal to the distance separating the other pair of slots so that the loops formed by the ribbons have a corresponding unequal cross section. Hence the ratio of the voltages on the ribbons is proportional to the ratio of the respective cross-sectional areas of the ribbon loops. In another embodiment, a third ribbon is added having a cross-sectional loop area equivalent to the second ribbon to provide symmetrical, single-turn output coils.
Abstract:
A square toroid transformer is assembled on a ceramic hybrid integrated circuit substrate. The primary and secondary windings of the transformer are provided on opposite arms of a square toroid ferrite core by providing first and second groups of spaced, parallel metal conductors on the surface of the ceramic substrate and adherent thereto, and an insulative layer over the first and second groups of conductors, leaving their respective end portions exposed. The square toroid ferrite core, coated with dielectric material, is attached to the insulative layer. Wire bonds in planes perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the opposite arms each are wire bonded, respectively, to an inner end of one of the metal conductors and an outer end of an adjacent one. A large number of turns for both the primary winding and the secondary winding are achieved, resulting in high primary and secondary winding and inductances, while maintaining a uniform separation and high breakdown voltage between the primary and secondary wirings.
Abstract:
A balun comprises an unbalanced terminal, two balanced terminals, and two ground terminals. The balun further comprises: a low-pass filter provided between the unbalanced terminal and one of the balanced terminals; and a high-pass filter provided between the unbalanced terminal and the other of the balanced terminals. The low-pass filter incorporates two coils and a capacitor. The high-pass filter incorporates two capacitors and a coil. The coils and the capacitors are made up of conductor layers of a multi-layer substrate.
