摘要: A nuclear reactor is configured with an intermediate coolant loop for transferring thermal energy from the reactor core for a useful purpose. The intermediate coolant loop includes a bypass flowpath with an air heat exchanger for dumping reactor heat during startup and/or shutdown. A fluidic diode along the bypass flowpath asymmetrically restricts flow across the bypass flowpath, inhibiting flow in a first flow direction during a full power operating condition and allowing a relatively uninhibited flow in a second direction during a startup and/or shut down low power operating condition.

摘要: A nuclear reactor is designed to couple the load path of the control elements with the reactor core, thus reducing the opportunity for differential movement between the control elements and the reactor core. A cartridge core barrel can be fabricated in a manufacturing facility to include the reactor core, control element supports, and control element drive system. The cartridge core barrel can be mounted to a reactor vessel head, and any movement, such as through seismic forces, transmits an equal direction and magnitude to the control elements and the reactor core, thus inhibiting the opportunity for differential movement.

摘要: The invention relates to safe operation support systems of nuclear power plants (NPPs) at severe accidents, including methods and systems for cooling and cooling control of the reactors molten core. The invention increases safety of NPP and cooling efficiency of the molten core of a reactor. The invention increases the efficiency of cooling the molten core of a reactor by safely removing the heat load from the molten metal mirror, ensuring the elimination of vapor explosions. The invention changes the principle of cooling the reactor molten core, in that after the molten core destroys the reactor vessel, the conditions for subsequent cooling of the molten metal are determined by the characteristics of the trap casing, but not of the reactor.

摘要: A molten chloride fast reactor (MCFR) includes a plurality of reflectors defining a central core having a core geometric center. A flow channel fluidically connected to the central core. The flow channel includes an outlet flow channel downstream of the central core and an inlet flow channel upstream from the central core. A primary heat exchanger (PHX) disposed outside the central core and between the outlet flow channel and the inlet flow channel. The MCFR also includes a decay heat heat exchanger (DHHX). At least a portion of the DHHX is disposed above the core geometric center, and a fuel salt is configured to circulate at least partially through the outlet flow channel, the DHHX, the PHX, the inlet flow channel, and the central core.

摘要: A jet pump plug and methods of forming a seal with a plurality of nozzles of a jet pump are disclosed. The plug has a plug body and a washer embedded within and bonded to the plug body. The washer has a center opening that cooperates with the plug body to define a central bore extending through the plug and the central bore can be configured to receive a fastener. A plurality of the disclosed plugs can be positioned in alignment with a respective nozzle, with each plug being sealed to the respective nozzle to form a seal.

摘要: A passively-cooled spent nuclear fuel pool system in one embodiment includes a containment vessel comprising a thermally conductive shell and an annular reservoir surrounding the shell that holds a liquid coolant forming a heat sink. A spent fuel pool is disposed inside the containment vessel and includes a body of water in contact with a first peripheral sidewall of the fuel pool. At least one spent nuclear fuel rod submerged in the body of water heats the water. The first peripheral sidewall of the spent fuel pool is formed by a portion of the shell of the containment vessel adjacent to the fuel pool, thereby defining a shared common heat transfer wall. The heat transfer wall operates to transfer heat from the body of water in the spent fuel pool to the heat sink to cool the body of water. The heat transfer wall comprises metal in one embodiment.

摘要: The invention refers to a device and a method for handling a fuel assembly (3), which comprises a number of fuel rods extending between a lower part and an upper part of the fuel assembly, a debris filter located in the lower part of the fuel assembly and a casing surrounding the fuel rods. The device comprises a lifting device (15) for engaging, during a lifting operation, a fuel assembly located in a reactor vessel (1) and lifting the fuel assembly upwards and out from the reactor vessel. A conduit member is connected to the upper part of the fuel assembly. A pump (32) creates a flow of water through the conduit member and the fuel assembly during the lifting operation. The flow has such a size that possible debris particles contained in and/or immediately beneath the debris filter at least are retained in and/or immediately beneath the debris filter during the lifting operation.

摘要: An effluent container has two halves which fit together to form a cylinder, open at the top, for catching residual contaminated water falling from the control rod drive (CRD) housing under the influence of gravity when the seal between the CRD housing and the CRD is broken. The container has an aperture which fits around the extension rod that supports the CRD when the mounting bolts are removed. The container halves are held together by elastic cords stretched between hooks on the side-walls. The effluent container has L-shaped slots which hook onto the bracing bolts of the sway brace system to support the container in position for catching falling water. Spilled water drains out of the container to a sump.

摘要: An absorber element "blow-out" protection system for a nuclear reactor having a pressure vessel through which a coolant is circulated. The blow-out protection system includes devices which hydraulically couple groups of guide tubes in which the absorber elements move, the coupling devices limiting coolant lift flow rate to a level commensurate with the raising of individual absorber elements but insufficient to raise a plurality of absorber elements simultaneously.
