摘要: A method for storing odometer reading data in a vehicle having control units which are connected via a data bus. The odometer reading data, which is determined at a particular time by an odometer, is stored in a storage means of a first control unit. This provides an alternative method for tamper-proof storage of odometer reading data and, in particular, improved protection against errors during the transmission of the odometer reading data. The current odometer reading data of at least one further control unit is then stored on the data bus in a storage means. The control units transmit the odometer reading data, which is stored at a particular time, onto the data bus at specific time intervals, and a control unit accepts the odometer reading transmitted onto the data bus if that reading is higher than its stored value, and uses that value for the further counting and storage in the particular control unit.

摘要: A method and system for determining a work path for a machine determines a path that minimizes energy consumption of the machine to enhance a usable duration of an electrical charge of an energy source or to conserve fuel. A work area is defined and is divisible into a number of cells. Respective geographic factors associated with corresponding cells within the work area are defined. An estimator estimates energy levels, associated with a machine moving in or between adjacent cells, in corresponding proposed directions based on at least one geographic factor (e.g., any change in elevation between or within the adjacent cells). Candidate total energy levels are determined for moving the machine through the cells along corresponding alternate proposed work paths for the work area. A selector selects a preferential work path from the proposed work paths consistent with the determined lowest energy level of the candidate total energy levels.

摘要: A CCD camera or equivalent sensor is mounted on a vehicle and used to detect lane markings (usually the white or yellow painted lines) on a roadway. An electric motor coupled to a steering system is used to provide a torque input to the steering, which may either assist or oppose the steering torque from a driver. A steering controller is designed to assist the driver to maintain the vehicle lane position by holding the vehicle at a target point using a biasing torque. The controller resumes application of the biasing torque upon expiration of a predetermined period of delay time since a change from the absence of detection of lane marking to the presence of detection of lane marking after the presence of detection of lane marking that continues for a period of time less than a predetermined period of time has occurred a predetermined number of times within a predetermined period of monitoring time or the absence of detection of lane marking continues for a predetermined period of time.

摘要: A material handling system uses high-frequency location devices for determining the location of mobile units, such as AGVs, overhead mono-rails, conveyor components, or individual articles being transported by such units. The high-frequency location devices may also be used to identify the contents and/or routing information for material being moved within a facility. AGVs may incorporate the high-frequency location devices into their navigation systems to utilize the position and/or heading updates provided by the location devices in guiding the vehicle. The location devices work in cooperation with a number of stationary location devices, such as beacons, that are positioned within the environment at known locations, such as in or adjacent the ceiling of the workplace environment. High-frequency radars may also be used to provide electronic bumpers to the AGVs, allowing them to sense obstacles and take appropriate action to avoid collisions with the obstacles.

摘要: In a vehicle traffic system, the predetermined nominal trajectory for an autonomous vehicle is varied periodically within acceptable boundaries which define a permitted travel corridor. The corridor's boundaries ensure the continued safe and controlled operation of the vehicle within the system. In an embodiment of the invention, alternative trajectories are selected randomly; in another, they are parallel to one another. In yet another, preferred embodiment, judiciously-selected, alternative trajectories are repeated periodically according to a predetermined schedule designed to avoid repetitive travel over the same precise path, and possibly also selected for optimal results under different terrain, environmental, and/or operational conditions. According to another aspect of the invention, the shape and size of the corridor defining the boundaries for safe operation are varied in response to changed conditions to increase operational flexibility. Thus, by avoiding repeated passage precisely over the path of the nominal trajectory, rutting on the road is greatly reduced and a more uniform surface is maintained for travel.

摘要: An automatic steering system for a vehicle is provided which includes a memory section for storing data for a steering angle of a wheel with respect to a distance of movement of a vehicle in correspondence to four parking modes. If a desired parking mode is selected by a mode selecting switch and the vehicle is moved at a creep while depressing a brake pedal, a control section controls the operation of a steering actuator to perform automatic parking control. At this time, an object detector continuously detects the position of an object around or in the vicinity of the subject vehicle, and when there is an obstacle already existing within a locus of movement of the subject vehicle, or when there is a possibility that a moving obstacle may enter into the locus of movement of the subject vehicle, a warning is provided to a driver, and an automatic brake is operated. Thus, it is possible to reliably perform the automatic parking control when there is an obstacle.

摘要: A self-traveling vehicle without requiring guide wire for travel is provided which allows a change of a traveling course with little expense and labor for reconstruction. Such self-traveling vehicle comprises a storing means for storing a travel road to be traveled, a receiving means for receiving a signal from a satellite and a calculating means for calculating a current positional information based on the signals from the satellite. A controlling circuit for controlling the traveling drive and steering wheel drive provided in the vehicle controls the vehicle in such a manner as to travel on a predetermined set road by verifying the current positional information and the road to be traveled.

摘要: An improved vehicle odometer is provided with an encoder and a microcontroller. The encoder has a unique key that configures an encryption algorithm. The encryption algorithm can be in the form of circuitry or software or any combination there between. The encoder receives a increment signal from the vehicle indicating that the vehicle has traveled a pre-determined distance. The encoder then increments the odometer-related value and then encrypts it with the encryption algorithm. The encoder then wraps the encrypted odometer-related value into a data packet with a serial number. Only a suitably equipped computing device, such as a microcontroller, identify and correctly decrypt and process the encrypted odometer-related value, thereby preventing the tampering of the vehicle's odometer.

摘要: A safety system and method for school buses in which sensors are associated with each seat to sense if a person is occupying the seat and if the seat belt is buckled. A display, within the vision of the bus driver, shows the condition of each seat. Sensors determine the head count of students on the bus. An alarm signals a mismatch between the head count and seats occupied. A telecommunications link and a global positioning system provides bus location to a remote station. Additional sensors detect shook, heat, smoke, CO, water and tire pressure.
