    摘要: A charging appliance for melting units that work under vacuum or under protective gas atmosphere includes a charging shovel, for holding charging stock, attached to a carriage which transports the charging stock to an advanced position inside the melting unit. The charging appliance further includes an ejector that holds the charging stock in the advanced position while the charging shovel is being retracted, resulting in the charging stock being deposited in the melting unit. The rolling carriage which transports the charging stock runs along a rail set. The rail set is movable via lifting cylinders. By selective displacement of two lifting cylinders, the elevation and angle of tilt of the rail set can be adjusted. Accordingly, the charging shovel can be maneuvered in a wide variation of positions inside the melting chamber. The charging appliance can be quickly and accurately adapted for use to a particular melting unit.

A scent pod comprises a container having a base and at least one sidewall, wherein a majority of the base and the at least one sidewall is formed of plastic having a thickness of at least 0.1 millimeters. A scented wax inside the container comprises a fragrance and a first temperature at which the scented wax liquefies and evaporates fragrance. The scent pod warmer generates heat at a second temperature hot enough to completely liquefy the scented wax in less than three hours, and the plastic for the container comprising a plastic having a heat deflection temperature high enough to withstand the heat generated by the scent pod warmer without deforming.

    摘要: A process for the introduction of metal chips, especially scrap metal chips, into a molten mass of the metal of which said chips are formed, wherein the essentially dry chips are first compacted and placed into strip form, and then introduced into the molten metal bath in such strip form in an essentially continuous manner, is disclosed. A cleaning flux is also advantageously incorporated with the chips, into the compacted and strip form thereof, and then into the bath. The metal chips, after compacting and placing into strip form, are introduced directly into the molten metal bath through the skin of metal oxide existing on its surface and caused to become a part of the metal pool beneath the surface thereof without essential disturbance of the metal oxide skin except at the point of introduction. The temperature in the molten metal pool at or near the point of introduction of the metal strip is sensed and communicated to means regulating the feed of the metal strip into the molten metal pool so as to coordinate the rate of introduction of the metal strip with the rate at which the added metal can conveniently and safely be melted and incorporated into the molten metal pool. Apparatus particularly suitable for carrying out the process of the invention is also disclosed.

    摘要: The invention is directed to a process and apparatus for preheating and transferring scrap into smelting furnaces for steelmaking or the like. The scrap is preheated by energy contained in the waste gases from the smelting furnace, which energy comprises sensible heat and chemically bonded heat in the combustible portions of the waste gases. The furnace-waste gases are guided to a waste-gas combustion chamber incorporated in a waste-gas outlet line and are burned therein with air to generate hot combustion gases which are fed to the scrap in the receptacles at a preheating station and then sucked out via an exhaust fan. After the scrap reaches the desired temperature, the receptacle containing the preheated scrap is removed from the preheating station so that the preheated scrap may be transferred to the smelting furnace. During this receptacle changeover process, the hot combustion gases are rerouted to another scrap-filled receptacle at the preheating station using a pipeline arrangement.

    摘要: A plug comprises a refractory body having a plurality of gas passgeways through which gas is blown into a refining apparatus. Each gas passageway may be defined by at least two metal tubes which are longitudinally spaced apart from each other. Alternatively, each gas passageway may be at least partly defined by an electrically insulating tube. The plug may alternatively have a plurality of gas passageways each having a bare refractory wall, while the body is reinforced with nonconductive mineral fibers, or metal wires which do not continuously extend throughout the plug. The plug may further be provided with a plurality of elongated holes extending in parallel to the gas passgeways from the inner surface of the body facing the interior of the refining apparatus to an intermediate portion thereof.

    摘要: A solid material delivery system for a furnace which melts the solid material has a delivery tube located at least partially within the furnace which is mounted by a rotor assembly for selective radial positioning in the furnace over a crucible in the furnace. The rotor assembly is constructed to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction caused by the furnace so that free movement of the delivery tube is achieved at all operating temperatures. The rotor assembly is also constructed to prevent jamming caused by particulate solid material in the rotor assembly. The delivery tube is formed so that flowable solid material will flow in a controlled fashion but without clogging to an outlet. The delivery tube and outlet are shaped to drop the material in a substantially columnar stream into the crucible.
