摘要: Methods and systems are provided for expediting engine cooling while reducing the overall energy consumption of the engine cooling system's components. A first circulation pump is used to pump coolant through an engine block as a function of engine output while a second radiator pump is selectively operated when a thermostat valve is open to pump coolant through a radiator and the engine block to effect the engine coolant temperature. Operation of the second pump is coordinated with the operation of a radiator cooling fan and grille shutters to improve radiator performance.

The electronic control unit is configured to execute processing for performing feedback control on power of the coolant pump such that the output of the coolant temperature sensor becomes a target temperature, micelle determination processing for determining whether or not micelles are added to a coolant based on pump work of the coolant pump and the flow rate of the coolant flowing through the circulation path, Toms determination processing for determining whether or not the flow rate of the coolant satisfies a Toms effect expression condition, and correction processing for increasing a relative value of the output of the coolant temperature sensor with respect to the target temperature when the micelles is added and the Toms effect expression condition is established.

摘要: A thermal management system and method for a vehicle includes a cooling system having a variable cooling capacity and which is connectable to a heat-producing system of the vehicle. A control system is configured to increase the cooling capacity of the cooling system to a first predetermined level in response to the at least one input indicating an increase in the future heat load of the heat-producing system when a temperature of the cooling system is at least a predetermined temperature and the cooling system is operating below the first predetermined level. The control system is also configured to inhibit increasing the cooling capacity of the cooling system to the first predetermined level in response to the at least one input indicating an increase in the future heat load of the heat-producing system when the temperature of the cooling system is less than the predetermined temperature.

摘要: A system and method of thermal management for an engine are provided. The system includes an engine, an electrical water pump, and a controller. The controller has a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which is recorded instructions. Executing the recorded instructions causes the processor to continuously monitor the temperature of the cylinder head and the temperature of the coolant. If the monitored temperatures of the cylinder head and the coolant are below predetermined thresholds, the processor executes a first control action, in which the pump remains off and the coolant remains stagnant. If either of the monitored temperatures of the cylinder head or coolant reaches the respective predetermined threshold, the controller initiates a second control action, which requires the controller to signal the pump to turn on and circulate coolant. The controller then determines the desired operating speed of the electrical water pump based on engine load.

摘要: An engine control system for a vehicle comprises a pump control module and a heating request determination module. The pump control module disengages a switchable water pump from an engine upon startup of the engine. The heating request determination module generates a heat request signal that indicates whether heating of a passenger cabin of the vehicle has been requested based on ambient air temperature, humidity of ambient air, and a status of an air conditioner clutch. The pump control module selectively engages the switchable water pump after the heat request signal is generated.
