摘要: Provided is a diamond-coated sliding part that is light, has excellent abrasion resistance, that prevents abrasion of the material of an opposite member, and that is effective in reducing power loss. This sliding part is especially useful as an adjusting shim for the valve train mechanism of an internal combustion engine such as an automobile engine in which the base material is silicon nitride or sialon and this base material surface is coated with a diamond coating layer. By performing finish processing on only a small part of peaks of diamond particles protruding from the surface of the diamond coating layer to reduce the height of the protrusions, or by controlling film forming conditions, etc., the profile bearing length ratio (tp) at a cutting level of 0.1 &mgr;m for the sliding surface of the diamond coating layer is made 60% or greater.

摘要: Roller follower assemblies generally reduce frictional losses and wear associated with operating fuel injectors using a cam. Oil helps to reduce wear, but may not remove small particles. Buildup of these small particles may prevent a roller of the roller follower assembly from rotating about an axle pin. In the present invention, a hard coating is disposed between the axle pin and the roller to reduce rolling friction and buildup of small particles.

摘要: In a combination of the shim 5 and cam 1 for use in a reciprocating mechanism portion, the shim 5 is made of a material having a hardness higher than that of the sliding surface of the cam 1 and the sliding surface of the shim 5 is finished to within a range of the surface roughness of Rz0.07-0.2 &mgr;m in 10-point mean surface roughness and further the sliding surface of the cam 1 is provided with open pores 1b. In the above combination, the generated torque and the wear of sliding portion are minimized by selecting a shim member whose surface roughness is difficult to deteriorate due to plastic deformation by a injection pump contact with a mating member and corrosion by various impurities mixed in lubricant and the like, and providing the surface of a cam member with an oil film holding function so as to maintain fluid lubrication of the sliding surface.

摘要: The present invention provides a hydraulic actuator for operating an engine valve, which includes a means for controlling the seating velocity of the valve. The design allows for free, unrestricted movement of the actuator piston during opening of the engine valve, and an unrestricted return of the piston and valve until the valve is within a predetermined distance of the valve seat. Once within this predetermined range, the return velocity of the actuator piston and engine valve are limited by the rate at which a fluid may escape through a restriction. The restriction is calibrated to provide the desired maximum valve seating velocity. The invention also provides for automatic lash adjustment.

摘要: An internal combustion engine valve actuation system is disclosed. The present invention provides a hydraulic actuator for operating an engine valve, which includes a control element for controlling the seating velocity of the valve. The present invention provides for free, unrestricted movement of the valve during opening, and an unrestricted return of the valve until the valve is within a predetermined distance of the valve seat. Once within this predetermined range, the return velocity of the engine valve is limited by the rate at which a fluid may escape through a flow restriction. The restriction is calibrated to provide the desired maximum valve seating velocity.
