Fibrous substrates are durably modified by applying a polyoxyethylene-containing silane to the substrate and heating the substrate to cure the silane. Durability of the treatment is achieved by using a silane having the formula R(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.x OR'SR"SiZ.sub.3 where Z denotes a hydroxyl or a hydrolyzable radical, R' and R" are divalent aliphatic radicals of suitable size, R is hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower acyl and x has a value of at least 3. The silane is applied to the fibrous substrate, such as a hydrophobic fabric, as a homogeneous liquid composition comprising the silane, a volatile liquid carrier and a siloxane polymerization catalyst to provide a treated substrate having improved properties, such as hydrophilicity.

A yarn treating composition useful for application to a filamentary yarn for high-speed friction draw-false twisting. This composition comprises substantially a polyether having a molar copolymerization ratio between propylene and ethylene oxides of 35:65-90:10 and an average molecular weight of 1,000 to 15,000, and small amounts of anionic compounds. The anionic compounds are used in the form of a mixture of salts of specific dicarboxylic acid derivatives with phosphate compounds and/or sulfonate compounds. The application of said treating composition to yarns provides a reduction of fluctuation in friction between the yarns and rollers, guides, etc. and of frictional resistance at a high running speed, improvement in threading property in false twisting, and a sharp decrease in scum deposits on heaters.

The present invention relates to a dispersion of a linear polyester resin for use in the property-improvement of shaped high polymer articles, said dispersion being obtained by mixing a linear polyester resin with a higher alcohol/ethylene oxide addition type surface-active agent, melting the mixture and dispersing the resulting melt by pouring it into an aqueous solution of an alkali under stirring. The dispersion may be used as coating or impregnating agents for shaped high molecular weight polymers.

Fluorinated condensation polymers which are made up of a combination of Blocks I and II: ##STR1## In these structures R.sub.f is a branched or linear perfluoroalkyl or perfluorooxaalkyl group of 5-18 carbons,R.sup.3 is an aliphatic triradical of 2-50 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of branched or straight chain alkylene, alkylenethioalkylene, alkyleneoxyalkylene and alkyleneiminoalkylene,R.sup.4 is hydrogen or methyl,D is the organic divalent radial of a diisocyanate,k is 8-100,m is an integer of 1 to 5,n is 1 or 2, andp is an integer of 1 to 5,Wherein Blocks I and II are combined in a ratio of at least about 15% to 70% by weight of Block I to 30% to 85% by weight of Block II.The blocks as defined are connected by urea linkages in the final product condensate. The polymer condensates of this invention are useful as coatings on textiles, glass, linoleum, leather, wood, tile, metals, plastics, and various materials. They are of particular use on textile materials as soil release agents, showing increased durability as compared to urethane-connected condensation block polymers.

A new class of hybrid copolymers which confer improved spray rating, resistance to staining, particularly aqueous stains and improved resistance to crocking on surfaces is obtained from (I) fluoroaliphatic radical-containing component in combination with (II) hydrocarbyl radical-containing component together conferring controlled oleophobicity and hydrophobicity in air and (III) a balanced combination of hydrophilic components conferring oleophobicity in water.
