A method is provided for the manufacture of collagen fibers for surgical purposes, in which Achilles tendons or hides from cottle are decomposed in an alkaline medium and are mechanically treated after treatment with an acid, deswelled, crosslinked and dried, wherein that Achilles tendons are decomposed in an alkaline medium to an amino-nitrogen content of from 0.15 to 0.30 .mu.moles/g and after a hydrochloric acid treatment and washing to a pH value of from 2 to 4, the swollen collagen substance is reduced in thickness under pressure forming a two-dimensional network, then the individual longitudinal fibers are exposed by hackling, and then, after deswelling, the fibers are cross-linked with hexamethylene diisocyanate in the presence of a nonionic or cationic emulsifier and are dehydrated and further processed on textile machines.

Improved wet adhesion properties of water-based paints and coating compositions are obtained by incorporating into the polymeric resin emulsion systems employed in the formulation of such paints or coating compositions a monomeric compound having a terminal ureido group at one end thereof and a vinyl terminal group at the opposite end. Such incorporated monomeric compounds correspond to the general formula ##STR1## wherein R is H or CH.sub.3, U designates a cyclic or acyclic ureido or thioureido group and L designates a selected linking structure. In the simplest of such monomeric compounds, L is --CH.sub.2 --, as specifically represented by allyl urea. In other representative compounds the linking group L may be a polymethylene group - (CH.sub.2).sub.n --or the chain may contain one or more oxy (ether), amino, amido or carbonyl groups, provided that any carbonyl group (CO) present is not directly attached to U or to an ethylenic carbon atom nor is such ethylenic carbon directly attached to a nitrogen atom. Among preferred monomeric compounds imparting such improved wet adhesion are: N-Beta-allylaminoethyl ethylene urea, allyloxy-N-B-(1-ethylene ureido) ethyl acetamide, and allyl ester of N-ethyl-B-(1-ethylene ureido)-N-methyl carbamate. The polymer resin in the emulsion is one formed from one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomer compounds, such as acrylates and methacrylates, vinyl esters, vinyl chloride, mono- or di-ethylenic hydrocarbons; or copolymers, interpolymers or blends of these.

Method and apparatus for treating a textile fabric with a volatile organic solvent and the resulting treated fabric which comprises, in cooperative sequence, pretreating said fabric in a pretreat stage by sequentially preheating to remove volatile materials and then cooling, followed by applying said solvent to the fabric in an application stage and then drying the fabric by evaporation and condensing and recovering the evaporated solvent in a drying and recovery stage, followed by recycling the recovered solvent back to said application stage. The invention has particular utility by providing a method which enables the recycling of the organic solvent from a fabric treating process and, therefore, provides an improved treated fabric.

The present invention relates to new polyether urethanes corresponding to the general formula ##STR1## and to a process for their production. The polyether urethanes are stable for prolonged periods at temperatures of up to approximately 300.degree. C in aliphatic polyamide melts, and polyamides containing urethanes of this kind, more especially filaments and fibers of such polyamides or woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, nonwovens or pile fabrics produced from these filaments or fibers, show excellent antistatic properties.
