The composition also includes an initiator for enabling polymerization reactions in the liquid crystal monomers. The liquid crystal material is a mixture of nematic and cholesteric material having a smectic to cholesteric transition just below the operating temperature range of the device. This provides a cholesteric pitch change to compensate for changes with temperature in the elastic twist and dielectric constants.
