Abstract: A problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal composition containing a polymerizable compound for producing a VA-mode, PSA-mode, or PSVA-mode liquid crystal display device which has large K33, small γ1/K33, high VHR after ultraviolet irradiation, a high polymerization rate of the polymerizable compound, no or very few display defects due to a change in pretilt angle, a satisfactory pretilt angle, and excellent response performance, and also to provide a liquid crystal display device using the liquid crystal composition. The problem is solved by a liquid crystal composition of the present invention containing a compound of formula (B31) and a compound of formula (CB31).

Abstract: To provide a compound having an effect for preventing photolysis of a liquid crystal composition, and having a high solubility in the liquid crystal composition, a liquid crystal composition containing the compound, and a liquid crystal display device including the composition. The compound is represented by formula (1), the liquid crystal composition contains the compound, and the liquid crystal display device includes the composition. In formula (1), R1, R2, R3 and R4 are independently hydrogen or alkyl having 1 to 4 carbons; ring A1 and ring A2 are independently 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,4-phenylene or the like; Z1, Z2 and Z3 are independently a single bond, alkylene or the like; and n is 0, 1 or 2.

Abstract: There are provided a liquid crystal composition containing one or two or more compounds represented by the general formula (I) and a liquid crystal display device including the liquid crystal composition. A liquid crystal composition containing a compound represented by the general formula (I) has high dielectric constant anisotropy and low viscosity and is of great practical use as a liquid crystal composition for liquid crystal displays. A liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal composition according to the present invention has a high contrast, high-speed responsivity, high light resistance, and a lower occurrence of image sticking and display defects, and is effective for higher-speed response and high-quality reliability.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device including a specific liquid crystal composition and a sealant in which a cured product of a specific curable resin composition is used.The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device which prevents a decrease in the voltage holding ratio (VHR) of the liquid crystal layer and which enables elimination of problematic defective display such as voids, uneven alignment, and screen burn-in.Since the liquid crystal display device of the present invention prevents a decrease in the voltage holding ratio (VHR) of the liquid crystal layer and enables a reduction in defective display such as uneven alignment and screen burn-in, it is particularly useful for active-matrix liquid crystal display devices of a VA mode and PSVA mode and can be applied to liquid crystal display apparatuses such as liquid crystal TVs, monitors, mobile phones, and smartphones.
