Abstract: The invention relates to a process for removing dienes from a material stream comprising C3 to C5 hydrocarbons by selective hydrogenation at a specified reaction pressure and a specified reaction temperature in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, wherein the reaction pressure and the reaction temperature at the reactor inlet are regulated such that the reaction pressure at the reactor inlet does not deviate by more than 0.01 bar from the specified reaction pressure and the reaction temperature at the reactor inlet does not deviate by more than 0.1° C. from the specified reaction temperature and the proportion of hydrogen supplied to the selective hydrogenation is in the range from 2 to 20 moles per mole of diene present in the material stream comprising C3 to C5 hydrocarbons.

A hydrogenation zone and an oxygenate removal zone are utilized to remove oxygenates from the effluent of the toluene methylation unit. The hydrogenation zone may be a liquid phase hydrogenation zone.

The dimerization reactor effluent may be separated into a traction comprising the C6+ hydrocarbons and dicyclopentadiene and a second fraction comprising C5 olefins and C5 dienes. The second fraction, a saturated hydrocarbon diluent stream, and hydrogen may be fed to a catalytic distillation reactor system for concurrently separating linear C5 olefins from saturated hydrocarbon diluent, cyclic C5 olefins, and C5 dienes contained in the second fraction and selectively hydrogenating C5 dienes. An overhead distillate including the linear C5 olefins and a bottoms product including cyclic C5 olefins are recovered from the catalytic distillation reactor system. Other aspects of the C5 olefin systems and processes, including catalyst configurations and control schemes, are also described.

Abstract: Selective hydrogenation of polyunsaturated compounds containing at least 2 carbon atoms per molecule contained in a hydrocarbon feed with a final boiling point of 300° C. or less, in the presence of a catalyst having a support formed from alumina and an active phase constituted by nickel, said catalyst being prepared by: i) bringing said support into contact with at least one solution containing at least one precursor of nickel; ii) bringing said support into contact with at least one solution containing at least one organic compound comprising at least one amine function with the empirical formula CxNyHz in which x is in the range 1 to 20, y=1−x and z=2−2x+2, or an amide function, or an amino acid, iii) drying said impregnated support at a temperature of less than 250° C.; steps i) and ii) being carried out separately, in any order, or simultaneously.
