Abstract: A laminated rail for a sawmill bed comprises an outer plate having a middle body portion, a top portion, and a bottom portion; and an inner plate secured to the outer plate, the inner plate having a middle body portion, a top portion, and a bottom portion. The middle body portion of each of the inner plate and the outer plate may have substantially the same cross sectional tacking configuration to allow the inner plate to be matingly received by the outer plate. A channel may be formed between the top portion of the inner plate and the top portion of the outer plate, the channel being shaped and dimensioned to receive and secure a track in a sandwich grip.

Abstract: A bandsaw assembly for cutting large diameter workpieces such as turbine rotors, heat exchangers or shafts at a plant or factory and a method of using the same is disclosed. The assembly includes a frame; ground-engaging wheels or a track provided on the frame; a plurality of spaced apart towers extending vertically upwardly from the frame; a rotatable drive wheel mounted on each tower, said drive wheel being horizontally oriented and presenting a vertically oriented circumferential surface; a motor operatively engaged with one or more of the drive wheels; and a bandsaw blade passing around the wheels and being in contact with the circumferential surfaces thereof; said blade being selectively driven by the drive wheels. The towers are variable in length to raise or lower the blade. The assembly is reduced in width for transportation or storage and increased in width for operation.

Abstract: An apparatus and a cradle for converting a portable bandsaw into an upright table saw. The saw includes a casing, a pair of spaced apart pulleys mounted in opposed housings on the casing for rotatably supporting an endless saw blade, and a trigger guard attached to the back of the casing behind the motor housing. The stand includes a horizontally disposed base plate, a vertically disposed pedestal and a short, narrow facing piece mounted on the base plate, so that the L-shaped trigger guard, when placed in an upright position, will snugly fit, remaining upright, and a bracket situated near the top of the pedestal which serves to retain the upper portion of the bandsaw. A trigger actuating means is mounted on the pedestal for holding the trigger of a saw suspended in the cradle in either an on or an off position.

Abstract: A stand for supporting a portable band saw in a stationary upright position. The saw includes a casing, a pair of spaced apart pulleys mounted in opposed housings on the casing for rotatably supporting an endless saw blade, a trigger guard attached to the back of the casing behind the motor housing and a threaded hole formed in the front of the casing forward of the motor housing for removably mounting a hand knob thereupon. The stand includes a support unit having a horizontally disposed base plate, a vertically disposed pedestal secured to the base plate and a raised support arm removably secured to the pedestal whereby the arm can be changed in assembly to accommodate different size saws. A cradle is formed in the lower part of the support unit which encircles a portion of the trigger guard of the band saw. When mounted in the stand, the hand knob of the saw is removed from the casing and a locking screw located in the upper part of the removable arm is threaded into the vacated hole to securely pull the casing of the band saw securely against the support unit.

Abstract: A portable saw mill apparatus includes a frame carrying supporting wheels, outriggers and a trailer hitch. A horizontal, unitized tubular track is secured to the frame and a carriage is moveable along said track. Mounted on the carriage is a horizontal, cantilevered band saw which is moveable vertically. Logs are received on support members secured to the frame, and the band saw is moved longitudinally of the frame to make successive cuts of the saw. Lowering of the band saw between successive passes provides for spacing of the cuts of the log. A single lever control enables the operator to positively engage or brake the band saw, and also to control the engine throttle.
