Abstract: A safety device for a bandsaw includes a frame and a pair of jaws rotatably mounted thereon. The frame is mounted on the framework of the saw with the jaws on either side of the blade. An actuating rod is slidably mounted on the frame. A resilient return member constrains the sliding and a two-way transmission transforms it into a rotation of the pair of jaws. An electromagnetic actuator is rigidly connected to the frame and a retaining member is rigidly connected to the actuator. The rod has a receiving portion which engages with the retaining member when the rod is in a first position relative to the frame. The transmission is arranged so that the jaws are separated from one another when the rod is in the first position.

Abstract: A hand-held band saw has a housing having an opening defining a cut zone. A first wheel and a second wheel are supported by the housing. The first and second wheels define a blade support portion configured to support a continuous blade to be driven through the cut zone. A handle extends from the housing, the handle having a grip portion. A blade guard is coupled to the housing and configured to move between open and closed positions with respect to the housing. The blade guard is configured to cover the blade support portion in the closed position. A chip vent is configured to provide an outlet for workpiece debris formed during a cutting operation, and a tire brush is configured to engage at least one of the first or second wheels to remove workpiece debris from the at least one of the first or second wheels.

Abstract: Machine vision apparatus tracks a distinctive object in relation to a hazardous location on a work surface of a modified band saw in two, three, or four (3-D+T) dimensions, and calculates whether to send an “immediate shut-down signal” to the band saw. Cameras and an image processor are mounted on the band saw. The signal causes an integrated blade-arresting or stopping mechanism to immediately shift the idler wheel, removing blade tension and disconnecting the blade which is then braked to a complete, safe stop before an approaching blue-gloved hand can touch the blade.

Abstract: Woodworking machines and safety methods for use with those machines are disclosed. The machines include a detection system adapted to detect one or more dangerous conditions and a reaction system associated with the detection system. The reaction system can include an explosive to trigger the system, and also can be configured to retract a cutting tool at least partially away from a cutting region upon detection of a dangerous condition by the detection system.

Abstract: Throat plates for table saws and table saws are disclosed. In some embodiments, the throat plates and/or saws have at least one securement mechanism to secure and prevent inadvertent removal of the throat plate from the throat of the saw. In some embodiments, at least one of the securement mechanisms also provides a height adjustment mechanism and/or prevents vertical removal of the throat plate. In some embodiments, the throat plate has an accessory mounting port that provides a portal for accessories, including safety accessories, to extend through the plate from beneath the table of the saw. In some embodiments, the port extends from the plate's outer perimeter to divide the plate's rear end portion into a pair of spaced-apart members. In some embodiments, these members are independently secured to the table saw and retained apart from each other by one or more of the securement mechanisms.

Abstract: A band saw machine with a disk brake device is provided. A lower gravity wheel is provided with a disk which is turned synchronously. The circumferential edge of the disk is provided with a brake seat. A brake wire provided at the bottom of the band saw machine is connected with a brake lever which can be pivoted. The upper end of the brake lever is in contact with a micro switch seat. Thereby, when the brake lever is pressed, the upper end of the brake lever is away from the micro switch seat, such that the band saw machine is cut off the power supply to stop running. The brake wire links the crank of the brake seat. The brake seat brings a brake action to the disk, such that the lower gravity wheel stops running so as to stop the operation of the saw band of the band saw machine. The present invention provides practical effects of emergent stopping and safety.

Abstract: A chainsaw having improved cutting workability is provided. A chainsaw is used to cut an object to be worked by a saw chain. A chainsaw main body is provided with an electric motor and a sprocket, and a guide bar around which the saw chain is wound is provided on the chainsaw main body. The guide bar is attached to the chainsaw main body by a screw member serving as an attaching member. A load sensor detects whether or not the guide bar is attached to the chainsaw main body. Rotation of the saw chain is prohibited based upon a signal from the load sensor when the guide bar is not attached to the chainsaw main body.

Abstract: An electric motor driven chain saw braking/locking apparatus with which electric current flow to the motor of the saw is halted simultaneously with braking of the motor when a hand guard is tilted forwardly. A belt brake device and a brake switching device are linked with the hand guard, which is pivotably mounted to the housing in front of a front handle, such that the braking force is applied at substantial of the same time that the switch is opened. A brake drum of the brake device is fixed to a motor drive shaft of the motor at a position where it receives cooling air from the motor. A lock mechanism is provided in the hand guard whereby, in an emergency, a braking operation with the hand guard can be easily and quickly performed.

Abstract: A chain saw is disclosed having a drive motor which drives the sprocket wheel of the saw chain via a transmission stage. The sprocket wheel rotates in the same direction as the drive shaft of the drive motor and drives the saw chain in such a manner that the portion thereof traversing the lower periphery of the cutter bar moves toward the housing of the chain saw. The saw chain is braked with a braking arrangement which develops a braking moment that causes the chain saw to develop a reaction moment that opposes the kickback moment occurring as a consequence of the kickback action. In this way, the angle through which the chain saw is deflected during kickback is reduced. In addition, a compact configuration of the motor housing of the chain saw is obtained wherein the braking arrangement is kept free of dirt and chips.
