Abstract:
The invention provides a device for activating a passenger restraining system in a vehicle comprising, a dash-pot assembly arranged to be operatively mounted between the vehicle structure and a bumper on the vehicle, the dash-pot assembly including a cylindrical tube, a closure across the tube and a piston movable in the tube to form with the closure a chamber for pressure fluid in the tube, throttle means in communication with said chamber arranged to control exit of pressure fluid from the chamber and to damp movement of the piston relative to the tube whereby to dissipate energy, and a sensor mounted as an assembly with said tube, the sensor including an electrical switch operable in response to fluid pressure in said chamber. This arrangement in conjunction with the fact that a dash-pot co-operating with a bumper or fender of a vehicle is one of the first components of the vehicle to be stressed during an impact, provides the advantage of the earliest possible activation of the actuating of an occupant restraining system.
Abstract:
A chain saw is disclosed having a drive motor which drives the sprocket wheel of the saw chain via a transmission stage. The sprocket wheel rotates in the same direction as the drive shaft of the drive motor and drives the saw chain in such a manner that the portion thereof traversing the lower periphery of the cutter bar moves toward the housing of the chain saw. The saw chain is braked with a braking arrangement which develops a braking moment that causes the chain saw to develop a reaction moment that opposes the kickback moment occurring as a consequence of the kickback action. In this way, the angle through which the chain saw is deflected during kickback is reduced. In addition, a compact configuration of the motor housing of the chain saw is obtained wherein the braking arrangement is kept free of dirt and chips.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a safety arrangement for a power-driven portable tool such as a motor-driven chain saw or the like. The portable tool has a housing equipped with two handles both of which are grasped by the operator to hold and guide the tool during use thereof. One of the handles is a bail handle mounted at the forward part of the housing. The safety arrangement includes two switches associated with respective ones of the handles. The switches are operatively connected to the motor so as to cause the same to be operative only when both switches are closed. At least a portion of one of the contacts of the bail handle switch is displaceable from a first position whereat the bail handle switch is open to a second position whereat the switch contacts come into mutual contact and the bail handle switch is closed. An elastic body associated with the bail handle acts on the one contact to effect the displacement to the second position in response to pressure applied to the elastic body by the operator of the tool when grasping the bail handle.
Abstract:
A device for the safety of occupants on automotive vehicle seats having two straps for extending over the occupant's shoulders with the two straps being combined in superposed relation at a distance behind and substantially above the shoulders of the occupant. A first securing arrangement is provided for coupling the combined straps to a portion of the vehicle and a second securing arrangement is provided which is securable to at least one portion of the vehicle and extends along at least a portion of the width of the vehicle seat. Guide devices are coupled to and movable with respect to the second securing arrangement with the guide devices receiving the two straps extending over the shoulders of the occupant and diverting the end portions of the straps at the level of the pelvis of the occupant to form lap belt portions connectable in front of the occupant. A seat member may also be provided which is retained on the vehicle seat by the guide devices.
