    摘要: A catheter guide wire is provided for guiding a catheter into a body cavity such as a blood vessel. The base material constituting the wire is made of an elastic alloy wire and subjected to a heat treatment such that its flexibility is sequentially increased from its proximal to distal end portions. A thermoplastic resin or/and a coil spring can be applied to at least the distal end portion of the wire base material. A method of manufacturing the catheter guide wire is also provided. The method is characterized in that the leading end side of the base material is divided into a plurality of areas and subjected to a heat treatment by changing the heat treatment temperature and the time conditions in units of the areas so that the flexibility of the base material is sequentially increased from the proximal to distal end portions of the leading end side.

    摘要: A urinary incontinence device comprising a tubular insert having a free distal end and an opposing proximal end, the insert being configured to be received within the urethra of a patient and being sufficiently flexible to be collapsed under constriction of the urethra. A flange radially projects out from the proximal end of the insert and is configured to seal against the opening of the urethra. An expandable reservoir is attached to the flange on the opposing side of the insert. A fluid channel extends from an opening on the exterior of the insert to the reservoir.

    摘要: The present invention comprises a means for the manual placement of a jejunal feeding tube within the small intestine comprising the insertion of a single lumen tube within the jejunal feeding tube. The placement tube has an inflatable stylet located at the distal end thereof. Once the tube is placed in the stomach of the patient by way an ostomy, the placement device is passed through until the inflatable stylet exits the distal end of the feeding tube. A syringe is attached to the placement device using a luer hub stopcock and the inflatable stylet is inflated like a balloon with air, water or other suitable material. The surgeon may then manually grasp the inflated stylet and by moving it place the end of the feeding tube at the desired position in the small intestine. The stylet may then be deflated and the placement device withdrawn from the feeding tube once the tube is properly placed.

    摘要: A calibrated guidewire for use in determining the magnitude of arterial occlusions in the body and a method of using the guidewire. The guidewire includes a flexible sleeve having a distal end and a hemispherical tip having a flat inner surface. A multifilar flexible coil is disposed between the distal end of the sleeve and the tip. The coil has a uniform outer diameter and is formed by two sets of different wires, one of which is radiotransparent and the other of which is radiopaque. The spacings between each of the sets is identical and is defined by the widths of each of the sets to provide regularly spaced radiotransparent areas of indicia that are observable as a fluoroscopic image to enable the user measure of the magnitude of an occlusion in a tubular structure in the body. The multifilar construction extends the entire length of the coil between the sleeve and the tip.

    摘要: A treatment for metallic surfaces and devices having metallic surfaces is described. A film of heptafluorobutylmethacrylate (HFBMA) is applied to a surface by radiofrequency (RF) plasma deposition and subsequently treated with a biologically active agent. A water vapor RF plasma treatment of the HFBMA coating provides reactive groups thereon which can covalently bond to the biologically active agent. Alternatively, a spacer group can be bonded to the activated HFBMA and the biologically active agent can then be bonded to the spacer group. Devices coated according to the invention possess enhanced biocompatibility and the HFBMA coatings are durable even under severe crimping and expansion conditions.

The latter objective is accomplished by an extendable wing mechanism having two stable wing-spreads selectable by means of a ball-point pen-type push-button control mechanism, and indicating windows which are color-coded in relation to the rotating push-button of the control mechanism to illustrate the proper sequence of read-out locations. A window reads out the depth of the fundus. The entire uterine probe assembly, including both the flexible wing-forming sleeve and the connecting rod which foreshortens the sleeve to collapse it into its wing configurations, is a disposable component which removably and replaceably connects to the handle assembly; the wing-forming sleeve connecting to the handle tube, and the foreshortening rod connecting to an actuating mechanism which reciprocates the rod relative to the handle tube, and hence relative to the wing-forming sleeve.
