摘要: A machine tool such as a drill has a stem of elastic material to which the cutting tool is attached. Supported on this stem is an orbiting-mass oscillator. While a machining operation is being performed, the orbiting-mass oscillator is driven at a frequency such as to resonantly elastically vibrate the stem, thereby providing sonic energy to the cutting tool which effectively pulverizes the cuttings made by the cutting tool so that they will not impede the machining operation.

摘要: The present disclosure provides a clipping tool for clipping flash from a component e.g. a gas turbine aerofoil body. The clipping tool includes a riser having a support surface for supporting the component and a punch for gripping the component on the support surface such that the flash projects laterally from the riser and the punch. The clipping tool further comprises a tool body having a clipping aperture opening to a channel within the tool body. The channel is defined by a channel wall. The riser and the punch are translatable to shear the projecting flash from the gripped component. At least a portion of the channel wall within the tool body comprises a broaching surface having at least one projection, said projection reducing the cross sectional area of the channel to less than that of the clipping aperture.

摘要: An improved centrifugally-cast tube is provided, along with a related method and apparatus of making the tube. The tube includes a plurality of grooves and bosses that are mechanically machined into an interior surface of the tube, such as by a broaching process. The profile of grooves and bosses may be defined by a plurality of intersecting concave and convex radii. The tube is resistant to creep, carburization and metal dusting. The tube also has an enhanced heat transfer rate, and a desirable surface roughness. A method of making the tube is also provided. The method essentially consists of mechanically deforming the interior surface of the tube by passing a series of cutting inserts on support rings having incrementally-differing dimensions over the interior surface. An apparatus is also provided which includes a telescoping shaft upon which is mounted at least one cutting tool that has a plurality of cutting inserts and is adapted to form a plurality of grooves and bosses in the interior surface of the tube. The grooves and bosses may be straight or spiraled.

摘要: In order to manufacture parts with an outer profile, a workpiece 32 is pressed by a pressure piece 24 through a ring-shaped cutting tool 34. The cutting tool 34 has a plurality of disks with inner cutting edges 62 for removing material from the workpiece 32. The cutting edges are progressively longer in the advance direction, so that each cutting edge removes material chips and the last cutting edge in the advance direction corresponds to the desired outer profile of the part. In order to improve chip removal, the chip chambers 74 located between the cutting edges communicate with the outside through radial connection openings 128 which are distributed all around their circumference. To hold the workpiece 32 securely on the pressure piece 24, a pressure pad 76 extends through the cutting tool 34 and is supported on the side of the workpiece 32 opposite to the pressure piece 32, and a hydraulic piston 80 generates a compression force on the pressure pad 76. To ensure a high dimensional accuracy, a calibrating tool with a passage whose dimensions at the rear outlet side correspond to the set dimensions of the part to be manufactured is arranged behind the cutting tool.
