    Abstract: An improved centrifugally-cast tube is provided, along with a related method and apparatus of making the tube. The tube includes a plurality of grooves and bosses that are mechanically machined into an interior surface of the tube, such as by a broaching process. The profile of grooves and bosses may be defined by a plurality of intersecting concave and convex radii. The tube is resistant to creep, carburization and metal dusting. The tube also has an enhanced heat transfer rate, and a desirable surface roughness. A method of making the tube is also provided. The method essentially consists of mechanically deforming the interior surface of the tube by passing a series of cutting inserts on support rings having incrementally-differing dimensions over the interior surface. An apparatus is also provided which includes a telescoping shaft upon which is mounted at least one cutting tool that has a plurality of cutting inserts and is adapted to form a plurality of grooves and bosses in the interior surface of the tube. The grooves and bosses may be straight or spiraled.

    Abstract: A helical broach 1 for roughing includes a cutting tooth part 30 in which n spline teeth 31 are arranged side by side in an axial direction. The spline teeth 31 each include cutting teeth 32 which are arranged at a predetermined helix angle. The cutting teeth 32 each have an acute angle portion and an obtuse angle portion on both sides thereof in a circumferential direction. The cutting teeth disposed on the first to n−1th spline teeth 31 (S1 to Sn−1) in the circumferential direction are each formed in such a way that its height on the acute angle portion side differs from that on the obtuse angle portion side. The cutting teeth (Sn) of the nth spline tooth (Sn) are each formed in such a way that its height stays constant in the circumferential direction.

    Abstract: This roughing end mill is provided with an end mill body which is rotated around an axis, and with a plurality of inserts which are placed on an outer circumference of the end mill body at a predetermined distance apart from each other in the direction of the axis. The plurality of inserts form insert rows of which a plurality are provided in a circumferential direction of the end mill body, and at least the inserts included in a group are positioned so as to be offset in the axial direction from each other in the different insert rows which are mutually adjacent in the circumferential direction. The inserts included in the group are provided with cutting edges which face towards an outer circumferential side of the end mill body and which are formed as waveform cutting edges which undulate as they move in the axial direction. One insert of one insert row of the inserts included in the group and an insert of another insert row which is offset therefrom in the axial direction among the inserts included in the group are positioned such that the waveform cutting edges of each of these inserts make up a waveform cutting edge row whose phase is continuous on a rotation trajectory around the axis. A plurality of these waveform cutting edge rows which have mutually different phases are formed on the outer circumference of the end mill body.

    Abstract: A finish broaching tool for finish cutting helical splines on the interior of an annular workpiece has a multiplicity of groups of circumferentially disposed teeth. Each group of circumferentially disposed teeth is formed on an individual wafer adapted to be mounted on the trailing end of a conventional broaching bar. The teeth of each wafer are formed on a predetermined helical angle and are adapted to helically align with the teeth of the other wafers. The wafers are sized so as to provide contact between the teeth of two or more wafers throughout substantially the entire finish broaching process.
