Abstract: An image scanning apparatus includes an image pickup device, a substrate connected to a terminal of the image pickup device, a heat radiation plate which is disposed between the image pickup device and the substrate and one surface of which contacts the image pickup device, and an insulating sheet which is sandwiched between the heat radiation plate and the substrate, respective surfaces of which contact the heat radiation plate and the substrate, and which electrically insulates the heat radiation plate from an electronic component on the substrate.

Abstract: An integrated image module for a document scanner includes a one piece die cast housing having a datum element and a support element. An imaging sensor array is enclosed in the housing. An array bias element urges the imaging sensor array against the datum element to provide accurate placement of the sensor array relative to the housing. A transport mechanism is attached to the housing so that the position of the transport mechanism accurately corresponds to the position of the imaging sensor array. The lens and the lamp for illumination are also attached to the housing so that the primary components of the imaging portion of the scanner are contained in a single module.

Abstract: An adjustable chassis for variable brightness for a scanner includes a light source, a reflection means, a lens, a charge coupled device and a brightness adjuster. The brightness adjuster may be a reflection mirror adjuster which can change the angle of a first reflection mirror, or a lamp holder adjuster which can change the light emitting angle toward the scanning document, or a light source adjuster which can change the distance between the light source and the scanning document so that brightness on the document may be obtained at an optimum degree to achieve better scanning quality.

Abstract: An apparatus for digitally archiving analog film images includes a support surface on which an analog film image may be supported, and a digitizer that is spaced from the support surface in a direction defining a Z axis perpendicular to the support surface. A light transilluminates the film image and projects it toward the digitizer through an objective lens which focuses the image. The positions of the digitizer and the lens along the Z axis are adjustable so that the size of the image projected onto the digitizing means can be varied. For example, it is possible to move the digitizer and objective lens between a range of enlarging positions in which the lens is closer to the film image than to the digitizer, and a range of reducing positions in which the lens is further from the film image than from the digitizer so that the film image may be either enlarged, reduced or reproduced at the same size before being sensed and converted into digital data.
