The session controllers process calls and participate in the calls that flow through it. The session controllers process calls that are either at the edge of the network or at the core of the voice over Internet protocol network. The session controllers associate calls with one another in call peers for incoming calls as ingress call peers and for outgoing calls as egress call peers. A centralized database of call routing policies is provided to the session controllers. The session controllers provide cost management, topology hiding, and inter-working, or conversion, of calls from SIP networks to H.323 networks for both voice and video.

A method for a setting up a conference call with a mobile station and an intermediary mobile station, using the intermediary mobile station as a bridged-node. When a conference server receives a request to setup a conference call, the conference server initiates conference setup signaling with both mobile stations using a cellular link. The conference server uses the conference setup signaling to direct one mobile station to act as a bridged-node and the other mobile station to act as a bridged-leg. Responsive to the directives, the bridged-leg mobile station and the bridged-node mobile station establish a Wi-Fi link. The bridged-leg mobile station then uses the Wi-Fi link to bridge to an air traffic channel associated with the bridged-node mobile station.

The present invention is applicable to the field of communications and provides a session establishment method and apparatus. The method includes: acquiring an infrastructure virtual circuit IVC corresponding to a user equipment UE; sending a virtual local area network VLAN label corresponding to the IVC to a customer location function set, so that the customer location function set adds the VLAN label to a packet of the UE, where the VLAN label is configured by an L2 session control functional entity for the IVC; and notifying an L2 forwarding functional entity of the VLAN label, so that the L2 forwarding functional entity forwards, to the IVC, the packet sent by the customer location function set and added with the VLAN label. In the present invention, a case in which the L2 forwarding functional entity needs to store a large MAC table is avoided, and packet forwarding efficiency is improved.
