摘要:
Provided is a transmitter which can maximize the efficiency of rectification in a power-receiving electronic device irrespective of the distance therebetween. The transmitter transmits electric power to the electronic device through use of a microwave. The electronic device receives the microwave, converts the microwave to DC power, and uses the DC power as operation power. The transmitter includes a carrier wave generator for generating a carrier wave; a modulating signal generator for generating a modulating signal whose level increases, decreases, or increases and then decreases during one cycle; an amplitude modulator for amplitude-modulating the carrier wave generated by the carrier wave generator by, the modulating signal output from the modulating signal generator and for amplifying the modulated carrier wave and outputting the amplified, modulated carrier wave as a transmission signal; and an antenna for radiating the transmission signal output from the amplitude modulator into a space as the microwave.

Methods, systems, and apparatuses for down-converting a modulated carrier signal to a demodulated baseband signal by sampling a portion of the energy of the carrier signal are described herein. Briefly stated, such methods systems, and apparatuses operate by receiving a modulated carrier signal and using a control signal to control a switch or switches so as to transfer a portion of the energy from the modulated carrier signal in the form of charge to a storage capacitor during a plurality of aperture periods and to discharge the charge in the storage capacitor into a load during the time between the plurality of aperture periods. The demodulated baseband signal is generated during both the charging and the discharging of the storage capacitor based on the energy accumulated at the storage capacitor as a net result of previous charging and discharging of the storage capacitor.

Methods, systems, and apparatuses for down-converting an electromagnetic (EM) signal by aliasing the EM signal is described herein. Briefly stated, such methods, systems, and apparatuses operate by receiving an EM signal and an aliasing signal having an aliasing rate. The EM signal is aliased according to the aliasing signal to down-convert the EM signal. The term aliasing, as used herein, refers to both down-converting an EM signal by under-sampling the EM signal at an aliasing rate, and down-converting an EM signal by transferring energy from the EM signal at the aliasing rate. In an embodiment, the EM signal is down-converted to an intermediate frequency (IF) signal. In another embodiment, the EM signal is down-converted to a demodulated baseband information signal. In another embodiment, the EM signal is a frequency modulated (FM) signal, which is down-converted to a non-FM signal, such as a phase modulated (PM) signal or an amplitude modulated (AM) signal.

Methods, systems, and apparatuses, and combinations and sub-combinations thereof, for down-converting an electromagnetic (EM) signal are described herein. Briefly stated, in embodiments the invention operates by receiving an EM signal and recursively operating on approximate half cycles (½, 1½, 2½, etc) of the carrier signal. The recursive operations can be performed at a sub-harmonic rate of the carrier signal. The invention accumulates the results of the recursive operations and uses the accumulated results to form a down-converted signal. In an embodiment, the EM signal is down-converted to an intermediate frequency (IF) signal. In another embodiment, the EM signal is down-converted to a baseband information signal. In another embodiment, the EM signal is a frequency modulated (FM) signal, which is down-converted to a non-FM signal, such as a phase modulated (PM) signal or an amplitude modulated (AM) signal.

A polar transmitter includes a phase monitoring unit for monitoring input modulating data. When a phase transition exceeds a phase transition threshold, the phase monitor unit can signal an amplitude negation unit to invert the amplitude data coupled to the polar amplifier. The phase monitoring unit can also add an offset to the phase data that is provided to a frequency synthesizer. In another embodiment, when the phase transition threshold is exceeded, the phase monitoring unit can trigger inverting differential frequency data coupled to the polar amplifier. In one embodiment, the phase offset and the amplitude negation are applied until a second phase transition value exceeding the phase transition threshold is detected. If such an event is detected, then the input amplitude data is no longer inverted and the phase offset value is no longer added to the modulating data.

Apparatus and methods for improving the spectral performance of a polar modulator are described. A composite FM signal component of a composite polar transmit signal may be processed by monitoring the FM signal to detect a transient burst component, and, responsive to detection of a transient burst, generating a spectrally friendly replacement signal component that may be combined with the FM signal to improve spectral performance of the composite signal. In addition, an associated AM component of the composite transmit signal may be filtered to further improve spectral performance.

A digital amplitude modulation (AM) transmitter with pulse width modulating RF drive is presented. A plurality of RF amplifiers, each, when turned on, amplifies an applied RF drive signal by the same amount to provide a unit step RF output. An encoder supplies turn-on signals to turn on a number of the RF amplifiers wherein the number varies as a function of the value of an applied audio signal. The width of the unit step RF output is varied as a function of the number of the RF amplifiers that are turned on.
