摘要: Disclosed is a method of tensioning/detensioning closure studs of a nuclear reactor vessel. The closure studs are spaced about a circumference of the reactor vessel so as to attach an integrated head package (IHP) of the reactor vessel to a body of the reactor vessel. The method comprises supporting a first stud tensioner device on a trolley, moving the trolley across a movement surface from a stored position to a deployment position adjacent the reactor vessel, engaging the first stud tensioner device with one or more of the closure studs, and operating the first stud tensioner device to tension/detension the one or more closure studs.

摘要: A stud enclosure for protecting a stud extending upwardly from a nuclear reactor pressure vessel (RPV) flange has a cylindrical can with a capped end and an open end. The capped end has an axially extending hole with a screw extending therein for fastening the stud enclosure to the stud. A seal ring is disposed adjacent the open end of the cylindrical can for sealing the ring on the RPV flange. A gas valve is disposed in the capped end of the cylindrical can for pressurizing the interior portion of the can with air. The stud enclosure is used to protect the RPV studs after the RPV head has been removed in order to permit access to the interior portions of the RPV. This use includes the steps of: removing RPV fastener nuts and washers from RPV studs extending from the RPV flange through stud holes in the flange of the RPV head while the RPV head is supported on the RPV flange; placing stud enclosures over the studs and into physical contact with the RPV flange while the RPV head is supported on the RPV; fastening the stud enclosures to the studs; and pressurizing the internal portion of the stud enclosures with a gas.

摘要: An integrated head assembly for a nuclear reactor pressure vessel includes a closure head with CRDM assemblies extending upwardly from the head. A CRDM seismic support disposed above the closure head provides lateral support for the CRDM assemblies. The seismic support also has air flow holes which communicate with the interior of a shroud enclosing the CRDMs and extending upwardly from the closure head to the seismic support. The shroud has an air port in direct air flow communication with the surrounding atmosphere so that the closure head, shroud and seismic support define an air flow passageway directly communicating with the surrounding atmosphere via the air port and without the extensive ductwork and, therefore, with substantially less power. A missile shield disposed above and in air flow communication with the seismic support provides a lightweight, compact physical barrier for removing energy from dislocated objects such as CRDM drive rods.

摘要: In a liquid metal-cooled fast neutron nuclear reactor which has a vessel sealed by a horizontal slab on which is suspended a core cover plug, the lower part of said plug comprises a deflecting grid, optionally duplicated by a thermal protection grid. Each of the grids is formed from a peripheral plate and modular plates defining between them passages for the liquid metal. The peripheral plates can be fixed to a perforated part of an external ferrule or can be suspended on a core cover plate by tie bolts and/or by certain of the control rod guidance sleeves. The modular plates are fixed to the other sleeves and traversed by sodium sampling tubes and tubes for housing thermocouples.

摘要: Core cover plug for a liquid metal-cooled nuclear reactor.It comprises a structure constituted in part by suspension elements fixed to the lower plate of the small rotary plug, and in part by control rod sleeve elements and a conical deflecting plate positioned directly above the core. The suspension elements, which can either be rod sleeves or rigid tie rods, support the sleeve elements by means of one or more grids constituted by intersecting vertical plates. The deflecting plate, which itself carries a group of sampling tubes, is fixed to certain sleeve elements by a connection permitting radial sliding.

摘要: A nuclear reactor refueling system for a liquid metal-cooled fast breeder reactor includes a large rotatable plug (18) eccentrically mounted relative to the reactor core (12), and a small rotatable plug (24) mounted within the large plug (18). A fuel handling machine (28) is rotatably mounted upon the small plug (24), and the eccentric mounting of the large plug (18) permits the fuel handling machine (28) to access all areas of the reactor core (12) as well as a fuel transfer station or port (34) located externally of the reactor core barrel (16) yet internally of the reactor pressure vessel. A unique six-fingered star-shaped upper internals structure (36) is eccentrically mounted upon the large plug (18) so as to be concentrically disposed relative to the core (12) when the reactor is in operation yet permitting access to the central-most fuel assemblies (14) of the core (12) as the large rotatable plug (18) is rotated during refueling operations. The uniquely configured upper internals structure (36 ), as well as the eccentric mounting of the large plug (18) relative to the core barrel (16) and the provision of the small plug (24) eccentrically mounted upon the large plug (18) permits the diametrical extent of the large plug (18) to be precisely the same as that of the core barrel (16).

The height "h" of the compensating ring (8) and its material are selected in such a way that the change in elongation resulting from heat expansion of the nozzle and closure materials is compensated in the region of the distance extending from shoulder (9) to tension coupling (15). The material and height "h" can be selected in such a way that a predictable difference in stress is created in the area of the tension coupling upon heating.

摘要: Apparatus for providing connection between two members having relative movement in a horizontal plane in a rotary or linear fashion. The apparatus includes a set of vertical surfaces affixed to each of the members, laterally aligned across a selected vertical gap. A number of cables or hoses, for electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic connection are arranged between consecutive surfaces in a C-shaped traveling loop, connected through their end portions to the two respective members, so that through a sliding motion portions of the cable are transferred from between one set of surfaces to the other aligned set, across the gap, upon relative motion of the members. A number of flexible devices are affixed to the upper set of surfaces for supporting the upper portion of each looped cable. The apparatus is particularly adaptable to an area having limited lateral clearances and requiring signal level separation between electrical cables, such as found in the rotating plugs and associated equipment of the reactor vessel head of a nuclear reactor.
