摘要: Apparatus for providing connection between two members having relative movement in a horizontal plane in a rotary or linear fashion. The apparatus includes a set of vertical surfaces affixed to each of the members, laterally aligned across a selected vertical gap. A number of cables or hoses, for electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic connection are arranged between consecutive surfaces in a C-shaped traveling loop, connected through their end portions to the two respective members, so that through a sliding motion portions of the cable are transferred from between one set of surfaces to the other aligned set, across the gap, upon relative motion of the members. A number of flexible devices are affixed to the upper set of surfaces for supporting the upper portion of each looped cable. The apparatus is particularly adaptable to an area having limited lateral clearances and requiring signal level separation between electrical cables, such as found in the rotating plugs and associated equipment of the reactor vessel head of a nuclear reactor.

摘要: A hatch assembly has an annular seat, a hatch cover and a plurality of latching units. Each latching unit has a slidably supported locking bolt movable generally radially inwardly with respect to the annular seat into a hatch cover locking position and generally radially outwardly into a hatch cover releasing position. In the hatch cover locking position at least one length portion of the locking bolt extends over the hatch cover for maintaining the hatch cover on the annular seat. Each latching unit further has a rotary crankshaft, an operating handle torque-transmittingly connected to the crankshaft for applying a locking torque and an opposite, releasing torque thereto; and a coupling mechanism for connecting the crankshaft with the locking bolt and for converting rotary motion of the crankshaft to linear motion of the locking bolt. The coupling mechanism has a spring for transmitting the locking torque from the crankshaft as a radially inwardly oriented resilient force to the locking bolt. The radially inwardly oriented resilient force is resolved to a component force with which the locking bolt presses the hatch cover against the annular seat.

摘要: A tool for maintaining ice baskets associated with a nuclear reactor system. The frame of the tool includes a platform which is disposed on a lattice support structure surrounding a selected and isolated basket. The tool includes an electric drill mounted for vertical reciprocation, in parallel axial relationship with the ice basket, and plural, selectively connectable auger shaft sections having a continuous helical fin thereabout which are connected in succession between the drill and a rotary drill bit, for drilling a hole of the required length, down through the ice within the ice basket. The drill then is maintained at an upper, vertically fixed position and a funnel positioned about the auger; ice chips or flakes are fed into the funnel while the drill is driven in reverse rotation, the auger conveying the ice to the bottom of the ice basket for filling lowermost voids and for filling successively higher voids as the auger is withdrawn. Clamping means are provided for clamping the protruding end of an auger section, during both the assembly of a successive auger section thereto and the disassembly of a successive auger section therefrom.

摘要: A fuel transfer system for transferring fuel assemblies through a transfer tube between fuel exchange locations respectively in a fuel storage and handling building and a containment structure of a nuclear reactor includes a segmented track comprising first, second and third track segments and a segmented drive screw comprising first, second and third drive screw segments respectively associated with the fuel storage and handling building, the transfer tube, and the containment structure. Gaps between the successive, corresponding track segments and drive screw segments permit operation of valves for closing the ends of the transfer tube during normal operation of the reactor, which valves are then opened during fuel exchange operations. The adjacent but normally displaced ends of the first and second and of the second and third drive screw segments include respective, mating engagement means. Remotely operable means advance the first drive screw segment while rotating same to interengage same with the mating engagement means of the adjacent second drive screw segment and then simultaneously advance and rotate both thereof to engage the latter with the third drive screw segment and thereby interengage all three drive screw segments for common rotation. A fuel assembly transfer car carrying a fuel container is supported on the segmented track and selectively driven, through a split ring received on the segmented drive screw in accordance with the direction of rotation thereof, between the exchange locations. The container is pivotally mounted on the car and engages an upending mechanism at each of the fuel exchange locations, which automatically pivots the container from a horizontal position in passage from the transfer tube to a vertical position in the exchange locations, therein or having removed therefrom a fuel rod assembly, and which automatically pivots the container to a horizontal position as the car travels from the exchange location and through the transfer tube to the other exchange location.

摘要: A position sensing mechanism, for use with a nuclear fuel transfer system which employs an underwater cart having a pivotable container to receive fuel assemblies, employs mechanical elements below water and a cable which carries movement of the mechanical elements to a switch assembly at a dry location. The mechanical elements include an anchor element which is affixed to an upender mechanism, which selectively moves the container between horizontal and upended positions when the cart is located at a fuel transfer station, and a feeler mechanism which is displaced by the cart. The feeler mechanism includes a pivotably mounted swing arm and one or more pulleys. The cable is attached to the anchor elements and is guided by the pulleys. The switch assembly includes a further pulley having cams to actuate microswitches when the cable is displaced by the anchor element and feeler mechanism. A temperature compensator is spliced into the cable to keep its length constant despite temperature variations.

摘要: A fuel transfer system for a fuel container (26) within a nuclear reactor facility includes a transport car (10) for transporting the fuel container (26) through a transfer tube between a reactor containment handling pool and a spent fuel storage pool. The system includes upending mechanisms for automatically pivoting the fuel container (26) from its horizontal transport mode to its vertical, fuel loading-unloading mode when the fuel container (26) enters one of the pools in response to the translational drive of the transport car (10). The upending mechanisms include slotted brackets (46, 146) mounted upon the fuel container (26), and pivotable pick-up bars (44, 144) for engaging the brackets (46, 146) of the fuel container (26). As the transport car (10) translationally moves past the pick-up bars (44, 144), the brackets (46, 146) of the fuel container (26) engage the bars (44, 144) whereby the latter pivot so as to in turn cause pivotal movement of the fuel container (26) upon the transport car ( 10) through means of trunnions (28). Reverse translational movement of the transport car (10) causes reverse pivotal movement of the container (26) from the vertical to the horizontal mode and ultimate disengagement of the brackets (46, 146) from the pick-up bars (44, 144).

摘要: A weighing tool and method for determining the weight of ice contained within each of a plurality of ice baskets received within corresponding compartments of a lattice frame, as employed with nuclear power generators. A cylinder body includes lug support frames and corresponding lugs movable to retracted positions for inserting the weighing tool within the upper end of an ice basket, and to extended positions for being engaging in the ice basket and securing the tool thereto. A piston movable in sliding relationship within the body and defining upper and lower compartment therein is secured through a piston rod to a support bar which rests on the lattice frame and spans the compartment. Hydraulic fluid under controlled, increasing pressure is introduced into the upper compartment, driving the cylinder body upwardly relatively to the stationary piston so as to raise the ice basket. The pressure necessary to lift the ice basket provides a measure of the total weight of the ice basket. Alternatively or additionally, a load cell subjected to the weight of the raised ice basket provides an output indication of the weight. Since the weight of the empty ice basket is known, a simple subtraction yields the weight of ice resident within the ice basket.
