    摘要: A multiple-axis machine for positioning a rotary-driven spindle, such positioning being by use of linear motors. The machine has a support for defining multiple axes, with (i) a rigid vibration-dampening bed defining at least an X-axis; (ii) at least one hollow column defining a Y-axis and having one end adjacent and movable along the bed and the other end extending away from said bed; (iii) a slide adapted for movement along the Y-axis of the column; (iv) a cage rigidly fixed to the slide for defining a Z-axis way; and (v) a hollow ram slidable within the cage and along the Z-axis way and carrying the spindle. The machine has bearing assemblies interposed between the column one end and the bed, between the column and slide, and between the cage and ram to provide for respective relative movements along the axes, the bearing assemblies being preloaded to provide an interference fit of 10-20% of the maximum bearing loading. Linear motor assemblies are interposed between the column one end and bed, between the column and slide, and between the cage and ram, the linear motor assemblies are selectably actuatable to impose a linear thrust force upon any or all of the column, slide, or ram for respective movement along the axes. The ratio of the natural frequency of the support and bearing assemblies to the bandwidth of the control velocity loop is slightly greater than one.

    摘要: A system for restoring a numerically controlled machine tool to its former condition after a power interruption, the numerical control system being of the type in which a position sensor senses the current position of a movable member or of a drive motor of the machine tool and generates a current position signal in accordance with said current position, the movable member being positioned on the basis of a commanded position signal and the current position signal. The positional control information which prevails immediately prior to an interruption in the electric power which is applied to the machine tool and to the numerical control device is stored in a non-volatile memory before the power interruption occurs. When the electric power is reintroduced, the positional control information is read out of the non-volatile memory, and the movable member is returned to the position which it occupied immediately prior to the power interruption, this being accomplished on the basis of the positional control information and the current position signal.

A turret carrying a plurality of drivable end working tools is selectively indexable and a single drive means is arranged to be coupled to and uncoupled from each drivable tool when indexed to an operative position.     摘要: A reaction torque actuator has a sensor operatively coupled between a motor housing and an outer housing. A pair of bearings support the motor within the outer housing in a spaced, concentric relationship. The bearings allow a mutual angular displacement of the housing about the axis of rotation of the output shaft of the motor, but they isolate the sensor from the axial and radial moments. In a preferred form for use in robotics where very accurate force control is desired, the motor: is a brushless D.C. motor, the sensor is of the strain gauge type, and the controller uses high quality amplifiers, sine wave commutation, cable shielding, and filtering to limit the noise generated by electronic switching.

    摘要: A servo system for the rotary spindle of a machine tool in which the spindle is driven by a drive motor through a gear train having shiftable gears for changing the rate of rotation of the spindle. The transducer for the servo system is mounted directly on the motor drive shaft in order to avoid all backlash between the resolver and the drive motor. However, the transducer is arranged to regulate the angular orientation of the spindle and must therefore be maintained in synchronism with the spindle. This is accomplished by arranging the shiftable gears so that when they are moving into engagement with a new gear, engagement with the previously engaged gear is maintained until initial engagement with the new gear is achieved. Further shifting movement into full engagement with the new gear operates to release the previously engaged gear. Thus, during the initial engagement with the new gear, the shiftable gear is momentarily in engagement with both gears. As a result, there can be no relative movement between the gears and synchronism with the transducer is thereby maintained.

    摘要: An electro-mechanical control system for controlling all of the movements of one or more slides on a single workhead grinding machine. A programmable controller is interfaced with a digital to analog converter or feed control which in turn controls a drive motor that is directly connected to a screw actuator means that directly controls the movements and positions of a slide. The positioning accuracy of the control system is derived from the accuracy of the electronic control components and the stability of the machine. The control system can control the operative movements of each slide in a compound slide assembly, simultaneously or independently, for a part of a grinding machine cycle. The compound slide assembly may alternatively carry a rotating grinding wheel or a workhead that is reciprocated at high speed for a grinding operation on a workpiece.
